Carlton has made a number of changes to its squad to tackle Geelong at Docklands in Saturday nights Semi-Final of the NAB Cup.

The Blues have recalled Matthew Kreuzer and Chris Yarran who both missed last weeks match against the Hawks.

Steven Browne, Jake Edwards, Rhys O’Keeffe, Lachie Hill, Darren Pfeiffer and Luke Stanton have also been included in the 29-man squad.

Carlton Coach, Brett Ratten flagged earlier in the week the Club’s intentions to rest a number of players. Chris Judd, Brendan Fevola, Bryce Gibbs, Ryan Houlihan, Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Jarrad Waite and Mitch Robinson have all been left out of the squad that defeated Hawthorn in Round 2 of the NAB Cup.

"Our priority during the pre-season is to prepare individuals and the team for the home and away season. We have a 22-game season and it is important that everyone is prepared for what is a tough physical and mental test, “Ratten told carltonfc.com.au.

"We (the coaches) work with the fitness staff and the medical team to ensure the players have the best preparation. We focus on the workloads of each player and closely monitor those who return from injury. There is a no-risk policy in the pre-season, so any player with a slight injury is not considered for selection and this limited the players available for this week's game to 30.

"The NAB Cup provides the ideal format and conditions to enable clubs to prepare for the season. As we have already seen this year it is also a great opportunity for young players to display their talents while gaining valuable experience at this level. For this week's game against Geelong we look forward to seeing a number of young players in action with leadership provided from senior players including Nick Stevens, Brad Fisher, Bret Thornton and Richard Hadley."

i still think we can do well, very happy to see Austin back and edwards at FF with Betts, Yarren and Gartlett at his foot with Kruz at CHF, could be very interesting

Dropping Judd, Fevola, Gibbs, Houlihan, Murphy, Simpson, Waite and Robinson. If we can still win this one the sky's the limit.

Not that I expect to come close here. There's a good chance of a serious flogging.

Wow, they really were serious when they said they were going to "rest a few". Must be one of the more inexperienced sides ever played at this level. Really looking forward to this game though. The forward setup is going to be Matty Kruezer, Stanton and Edwards as the talls, with Eddie, Yarran and Garlett. Not much experience, but heaps of talent. Jacobs and Hampson should be OK in the ruck. The midfield is very depleted. Suspect Stevens, Grigg and Hadley will be the main midfielders. Takes a lot of courage to name such a young side, who could potentially go down by 100 points or more against an experienced Geelong lineup. :)

whos in the middle ? now thats confusing? Eddie might have to be in their with Grigg, Russell?
O Keefe looks like a smooth mover so i hope to see on the half back line using his beautifull leftty

Nah thats not courage. Courage is tagging Paris Hilton without Glad Wrap.

This is just throwing the kids in the deep end and seeing which ones float and which ones go down like last nights curry.

Mitch is in esteem company there......I think he is part of the in crowd which includes the likes of Judd,Fev, Murph and Gibbs...me likes :thumbsu:

Walker? Another week?

If we win this game without those players then we are a monty to win this years flag as well as the Toud de France and finally we can run off with the ashes!!!

Best of luck boys!!

a royal shalacking is coming this week i feel....lets hope i am wrong!

lets hope no injuries come from this, and we have the mental strength to know that we will probably get put into the ground from the seasoned Cats players......

......and i wouldnt look into the loss too much, but hopefully some of our players really stand up and shine without the list of stars out!!

if we lose we are off to Bunbury in WA to play Freo.

Our back 6 is pretty much full strength, with Waite only one missing...so i would like them to be our strong point in this game.

Our midfield may struggle, though i would expect Stevo to be played off the bench for most of the game as a rest and i would expect Betts to get more of a run in the midfield....even the likes of Bentley to take a main role.

Our forward line will be the least experienced and will be good to see how Edwards, Cloke, Fish, Wiggo and the likes do without Fev, considering now i would expect Scarlett to take the number 1 forward and so on and so forth, so now our forward players will have a better cats defender on them. Lets see how they do!

I will be pleased with a 6 goal loss, though i wouldnt be too p!ssed off if we get a 10 goal loss

Unfortunately i wont be at the game nor watching it, so i will be on my 3 Sports pack for most of the game checking updates

GO BLUES!!!

DOA (Walker's Father) posted on TC that Walker will be attending his sister's wedding this Saturday.

I wander if he will dance with his sister :D

Stevo was talking to KB yesterday on SEN and mentions that he will probably have a run in the VFL to ease him into the season.....as he is a real key in our structure this year!!

If you thought our outs were big check out Geelongs in's.......This will be ugly but dam good experience.

Thank god it counts for nothing!

Ha ha ha ha it's kinda funny really!

Carltons out's = ;)

Geelongs in's =

End result = :o

I like that we're resting players, but a big thing about resting Fev would be so we look for other options - if our first string midfield is resting anyway, whats the point.

Would have prefered to see Fev miss either last week, or next week rather than with the rest. Half the players that 'practice' targeting other options won't even be there come round 1...

Yes I heard that yesterday as well & I read somewhere that the VFL game is tomorrow.

I can't wait to see Walker in Rnd 1 ;)

That's about as strong as they can get. But obviously all of them won't play. I'd expect Bartel, Selwood, Chapman wouldn't play

Glad to see the staff have stuck to their guns and kept focus on Rd 1. If this is what is required to ensure a good start to the year, then great squad.

Disappointing to see Bannister still hasn't come up from injury. I think some people forget how influential he can be for us as an around the ground tagger.

Thought they may be tempted to play Setanta...

"Blues go with the kids"

CARLTON coach Brett Ratten has taken the extraordinary step of leaving out eight senior players from the squad to face Geelong in Saturday night's NAB Cup semi-final.

The Blues, fiercely determined to manage their players' workloads ahead of Round 1, have selected all eight rookies for what promises to be a one-sided contest against the Cats at Docklands.
Skipper Chris Judd, Brendan Fevola, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs, Jarrad Waite, Kade Simpson, Heath Scotland and Andrew Carrazzo will all be absent.

Geelong will be without Joel Selwood, Cameron Mooney, Corey Enright, Andrew Mackie and captain Tom Harley.

But importantly for the Cats, young forward Tom Hawkins and Steve Johnson will play their first games of the year, while Matthew Scarlett and Gary Ablett return to the side.

The loser of the semi-final will pla y Fremantle in a practice match in Bunbury next week.

I hope a 100 point loss won't crush the players confidence that has been slowly built up over the last 18 months.

F*** geelong are good.
