I don't know who's entitled... but I know my sister got the voting package but I didn't

Only 8,900 voting members? Come on guys, register yourselves to vote.

1. You're eligible if you're a paid up, full member, and have registered as a voting member. It doesn't happen automatically, you have to contact the club and fill out a form. Once you've registered, you're registered as long as you're a paid up, full member.

2. Directorships are positions of serious responsibility. Directors are liable for any decisions they make on behalf of the club, and that includes financial and criminal liabilities. Members vote for directors they think will be best for the club, and the directors pretty much get to make their own decisions for the rest of their term (3 years in CFC's case). The board tells the administration what policies the club will have, and the administration tries to make them work as best they can. There's also convergent business interests to be considered. If a business heavily relies on a supplier or customer, they may have a seat on the board. In a club's case, it's usually about what deals, contacts or raw money they can bring to the club.

3. I have no opinion either way about the four candidates. I voted for the status quo as I'm pretty satisfied with how the club's being run right now. I'm sure there are several equally valid reasons for voting Spartels in. He certainly didn't sound like a bad candidate, particularly when we're about to have a real social club again. They all included the usual motherhood in their supporting statements.

Thanks heaps for the detailed response :)
I pick up, your a registered member. Sounds like quite an important job, is there anyone they have to answer to at the club or do they have free scope to make decisions on their own (or do they answer to administration) .

What do you mean by policies?

When was this announced? I must have missed it
The candidates each had their blurb included with the voting form. If you're registered to vote, you should have received it. If not, call the club and get them to send you a registration form.

It's probably too late for this election, but you'll be on the list for next time.

Carlton Football Club is a corporation (like every other AFL club). The members/shareholders elect directors to the board; the board appoints the administration; the administration (& usually the board) appoints the football department.

The board has free scope to make decisions, but they have to answer to members/shareholders each year at AGMs (or extraordinary meetings - like we had in 2002). Directors usually run their election campaigns on specific issues. Members should be aware if they're living up to them or not.

Policies like the redevelopment of Princes Park, home venue, etc. would be decided by the board. The administration would be responsible for decisions on say, how the membership department is run, or managing a sponsor's expectations. Unless there's a stuff-up, the board doesn't get involved at that level.

I got the package in the mail, but tbh im not fussed,
Im happy with how its going now and im not gonna bother voting

My problem is I have no idea how a club should be run in order for it to be successful and would only vote with popular opinion or to keep status quo.

I have no experience in such matters so I feel its better for me to stay out of it.

What are you doing on BigFooty? ;)

What are you doing on BigFooty? ;)

To spruik the might of the Navy Blues to the uneducated masses :thumbsu: I think I have a reasonable analysis of the game, but the politics of the behind the scenes stuff (like sponsorships and the like) have never been a big interest in me so I don't have the level of understanding as others.

Not saying I have an unwillingness to learn more about it, but I feel that my voting would be uneducated at present and shouldn't hold the same sway as someone who does have a better understanding.

Basically, I like to have my decisions made for me ;)

If you are happy with the way things are going then you should make sure you vote for the current board to stand as is.

Traditionally, in peaceful times (like now), registered members don't feel there is a need to vote and tend not to bother.

This makes it easier for new candidates to bump out current board members.

So if you're happy with the way things are going and want to ensure board stability and the continuation of their work MAKE SURE TO HAVE YOUR VOTE COUNTED!

All you need to do is fill out the YELLOW form (not the green one in the original package) and mail it back to the club. Hardly too much effort.

Interestingly enough, I just opened some mail with my name on it but nothing else on the envelope,
Its from Mark Harrison and he included his personal mobile phone number,
That seems like a nice touch to me and on second thoughts I'll probably vote for him to be relected after all rather than not voting.

P.S.
He also has the endorsment of Fiona Geminder (Richard Pratt's Daughter)

The board will be very important now as I could imagine they would have seconded and moved most of Dicks motions as he was coming in saving the club

I received it as well.

The votes are in ............

The Board remains unchanged.

Adrian Gleeson, Mark Harrison & Marcus Clarke who nominated to continue on the Board have received the majority of votes.

Michael Spartels was the unsuccessful candidate.

CFC Board remains unchanged
