Blues Vs Lions

Its a 2 team contest so in its rawest sence - YES.
But..........realistically, I think if we can stay within 6-10 points per quarter of the lions we would have done pretty well.
It would be nice to "win", but I just cant see us doing that yet (upsetting quality opposition - I hope I'm wrong).

The one thing that I would really like to see is the Lions have to battle very hard for most of the game to overhaul us.
As long as they dont get a run on of 6 plus goals on the trot & destroy us.
If we can stay with them....within reach, it would be a great result on the road.

There are many positives to take out of the Collingwood win & those largely being that Fevola aside, (& servicable / good games from Scotland & Stevens), the big guns hardly fired a shot for us.
Lance, Kouta, Campo were pretty much at about 40% of what we would expect from them normally, & I may be over generous here.

The second tier of players have more than met expectations (well most of them) & many of them exceeded them.
The continued development of Norman, Thornton (in particular) & as well as the influx from guy's like Teague, Bannister, Scotland, Deluca, Walker (melbourne game aside) is what I believe the major factor in our improvement.
Stevens was always going to be a huge boost, but he alone could be shut down (much like campo last year) without the previously mentioned blokes playing significant roles.

Go Blues, make us proud & continue to improve.

My tip - Lions by 30 - 40 points.
My Heart - Blues pinch a thriller & win by 5 points.

Have we got any chance against the Lions?

In one word…. No chance in hell………. Oops that’s 4 words………….. You get the general gist of the point. For Brisbane to lose this game Carlton would have to kick a point in the first qtr and then Brisbane, walk off the ground……notice I didn’t over exaggerate and say “goal”….. and not return. Brisbane’s mid field will absolutely run riot at the gabba on Saturday night. This game will be just like a training drill for the lions. Having said that I’m not expecting Carlton to make as many unforced errors (clangers) as was the case against the pies. If Carlton can improve their clanger rate I’d be happy………… cause Saturdays game was shocking. If we play the way we played against the pies, the lions will win by over 100pts………… even without voss and lynch.

Any loss by under 10 goals will be pretty good for the Blues. They are a tripple premiership side, we have been down the bottom for a few years.

Do you think we could play (Stomin) Norman on Akka? They have played him on Phil Matera and gave him a bath, so you never know.

Also shag versus Mal Michael will be great to watch. Good for the shag's continues development as well. Thorton on Bradshaw will be pretty good and Lappin-Houghlahan will get McCrae.

Best case scenario: shag kicks a dozen, campo plays forward and kicks 3. stevans, scotland and walker star in the middle. Kouta, thorton, and normal all have blinders.
Blues win by 8 goals....Unlikely!!!

cheers

Before I go on, no i don't think we'll win, but........
remember last year at Optus when we had a 6 goal 2nd qtr against the Lions to blow them apart? Was one of the few highlights of last year (of course, they then came out and annihilated us in the 2nd half and won by over 100!) but - our best hope is if they're flat, off their game and we can catch them off guard early.

Like i said tho, i don't think that'll happen - hopefully we just put up a spirited fight.

Wow - what a game.
Just when I thought we would be starting from scratch once again, we pulled in a 70 odd point deficit & played some fantastic footy.
It will be easy for some to say "yeah but we let that blow out take place...blah blah "& more negative stuff of that type...
lets aknowledge that the fightback was not totaly in dead time & the blues did put themselves in a position to pinch it, although I think we would all adit that was never going to happen.

The margin was pretty much all that we could have hoped for, the process however wouldnt have been of our choosing.
A tough 3/4's fight & brissie kicking clear may have been more to our liking, but what we saw between late in the 3rd & most of the 4th quarter was really good, direct foorty.
Our skills looked great - not just desire, but clean, skillful & commited footy.

Kouta was a massive loss for us in terms of our structure, but the performances of Lance, Fisher, Hulme, Prenda (jury still out...) & this years usual performers - scotland, stevens, campo, thornton & johnson (sorry fev - your first down day this season), give us great hope & optimism.

I lookforward to our next 2 games, we should expect to beat the Bulldogs & see some massive improvement from the last time we played the Saints.

Go Blues !
