Sad to see him sacked but was always a chance. Sign the inexperienced guy, let him grow the list, then when you think you're ready sack him and get Ann experienced coach. It's the last but they now need to execute.

poor form by gc. i do hope this doesnt put pressure on simpson though

???

It won't impact Simpson in the slightest.

As for GC it's understandable they might want a coach who knows how to mould a genuine contender. They are a young club creating a culture and they'd perhaps reasonably think they've a chance to get an experienced senior coach who has been there done that.

I'm pretty sure Bluey understands that. And doesn't agree. But understands.

i meant it as if simpson doesnt meet his kpis next year they may want to use another prodigal son as a coach.

Yep, I get that. I just don't think McKenna being out on the market changes anything much. We extended Simpson through 2016, so unless he has a dire year he's staying. If the year is dire then he's in trouble regardless of McKenna being out there.

I'm not understanding the "poor form" comments??

Like it was "poor form" to bin Harvey for Lyon?

Maybe freo would have won a premiership with Harvey. They haven't with Lyon

The team has been built up for 5 years learning a certain way and now they are going to get taught differently. Whether the new way is better or not its going to take time to adjust. Unless there was an underground hatred of Bluey its a huge call.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but surely this post is a pisstake?

We don't need Bluey here, the less West Coast People at our club the better.
Feel for Bluey but thats how footy works especially in the AFL. Gte someone else to do all the heavy lifting and then a so called star coach comes in and reaps the reward. Been that way forever.

I'm assuming you're just kidding right?

I'm hoping we all realise this isn't how stuff works.

He was kidding.

Got a bit of a shock seeing that headline of Guy sacked. I guess I thought he would at least go around again. Oh well.

I wonder what, if anything he could bring to WC? Not that we have any room....

Guy says it best:

"It has been a privilege to have coached the Gold Coast SUNS and I know the success the club aspires to achieve is not too far away.

“The club has every right to pursue a direction it believes will give it the best chance of continued improvement. Although I leave with a heavy heart, I am content that I have helped develop a unique group of players."

Rough to be sacked four years into a club he had to build from the ground up, even for a premiership coach. You don't get to be a premiership coach unless a club is willing to back in a non-premiership coach. Gold Coast fans will be hoping this isn't like the time the Hawks almost sacked Clarkson before the 08 flag but with a different outcome.

Perhaps McKenna is more of a youth developer than a strategist? Perhaps he suspected all along this was going to happen?

You'd think they'd have someone lined up for the job if this is the case.
