the team that finished last considers him not good enough to be in their future plans..that alone should be a good enough reason to ******** him off.

Carlton finished second last and didn't consider Murphy and Allan good enough for their future plans.

Nice selective editing mate.

If you read up a few lines i said something about filling a need. We needed some ruck support and a ball carrying midfielder with some polish. We got both with Allan and Murphy.

What does Blumfield bring to the table? Does he give us some much needed run in our midfield? Is he an option at CHB?

He brings nothing to the table in terms of adding to our list. We are a long way off a flag so lets start building towards one with some decent young kids. I'd rather pump 20 games into Dyson and Nash and miss the finals than give a blumfield 20 games and limp in like this year.

He gives us a ready made midfielder with a big body who if (i know its a big if) stays fit is ready for the rigors of AFL week in week out and is ONLY 26.

He has very good hands, is clean at stoppages (an area we really struggle) and he finds space (another area we struggle). He also has the ability to run forward and kick goals (what do you know, another area we struggle).

Seems to me he could bring a fair bit to the table.

We have younger guys on our list who can do the same job. Dyson is one kid last year who found space on many occasions only to be overlooked for more senior teamates. He also can kick goals. Alvey is another, Nash can do it as well and if winderlich can pull his finger out he can play the same role.

Lets not forget that injuries are no excuse for blumfield. He had an average 18 months at windy hill before we gave him the flick. Blumfield used to be a decent footballer just like Brett Lee used to have a decent bowling average....things change and we've seen the best of Blumfield. Time to move on and stick with the kids.

If Blumfield was 28/29/30 then I'd agree with you. But he is 26.
Dyson, Nash, Winderlich aren't going to go on and kick 25 goals next season. Alvey could but Blumfield won't keep him out of the side.

Dyson and Nash won't win the footy at stoppages, Blumfield will. Dyson and Nash won't have the ability to run with a Buckley or Crawford. Blumfield does. In 2000 people were saying James Hird used to be a good footballer.

Blumfield is not the difference between us winning a flag and not.

So in that case why not build towards one with kids that will in a couple of years time be pivotal in any success we have?

He is 26.
In three years time he could be the difference.

Marcuz you asked what he could bring that we lack - simple - a marking target. Having lost Jacobs and Wellman over tha past two years, only McPhee has stepped up to help replace the void of marking targets around the ground. Far too often across the wing and HF line we looked impotent in the air. That is what he will bring. That and a guy who can play in the middle.

If we are going to rely on Winderlich and Alvey then we may as well start planning for 2008.

if i could get a guarentee pevers that blumfield would return to his 2000 form id love to have him back. But he hasnt shown any signs that he may just do that. You can only go by his recent form and even pre injuries his form was ordinary to say the least.

You're only as good as your last game.

Marcuz, as a tiger fan I was extremely disappointed with blumfield. Was delighted we got him over but boy he was so disappointing. Injuries robbed him sure, but he had the opportunity to really cement a place in the side at punt rd given the ordinary list we had this year. Played one good game in a grand final with essendon and that was about it.

An overated player who you could do without IMO.

He played many more than one good game with Essendon.
And you can't be overated if no one rates you.

fair enough - but I guess my thinking takes into account the tigers, being how can you judge anyone fairly who plays for Richmond. He obviously didn't have the heart in it there and seems keen to prove his knockers wrong. and after all - he is an essendon boy at heart - so he plays for the guernsey.

would take him over caracella.
