A better comparison would be if we had a board on Germany (and we were one of only 3-4 countries in the world that called it Germany whilst EVERYONE else called it Deutschland), and were thinking of calling it "Germany" in preference to "Deutschland". That is a bit better comparison I think.

That's a poor example. It's only called Deutschland by the Germans. In English it's Germany, in French Allemagne, in Russian Germaniya, in Italian Germania, in Greek Germanía, in Serbo-Croatian Nemachka etc. etc. etc. So you were saying??

This is an Australian board and as "Football" means something else for most folks, why not just call Soccer what 99% of us all call it?
