A great man has passed away today and a great player as well.
A little known fact about Bob was that he was a passionate Bloods fan in his younger days He was born in Clunes near Ballarat and game down to try and get a game at South, but was rejected and the rest is history.
Some of you new guys on here might not know that Bob was the one that presented the "Holy Grail" to Roos and Hall, as he did for the Cats in 09.

As i was leaving the G that day the first person i ran in to was Bob and his lovely wife and he was so excited that the Bloods had finally one the big one and he hoped one day Geelong would do the same.
Farewell Bobby a great Australian.

Obviously too young to know much about him, but was always talked up as one of the greats of the VFL/AFL. Probably wouldn't be many more loved Geelong people.

Bob gave the Jock McHale Medal to Roosy in '05 didn't he? Kel handed over the cup.

Ha! My dad and I were just talking about this. And then he went on to tell me we rejected Darrel Baldock.

Our scouts were terrible back then. :)

Was great to see him on the podium in '09. Would have been such a thrill for him to see 2 Geelong flags after such a long drought.

And Daicos followed the swans as well. So we rejected Davis, Baldock, Carey, Longmire and Daicos.

I heard Skilts on SEN today talk about Bobby. He said he was a real gentleman who bought fun into footy. Skilts said going to Geelong on the bus was a huge trip in those days and the only time during his career they won at Kardinia Park was in 1970 in a game he missed with injury.

Yes i was there and we needed to win to make the finals and thats another story.
I hope fox footy or 7 do a tribute show to Bob as i'm sure the Footy Show will.

They just don't make them like Bobby Davis anymore, he is emblematic of a different time an absolute gun player, a premiership coach (playing attacking footy), one of the holy trinity of 'League Teams', a true gentleman, loved and respected by all etc.etc.etc. A massive loss to our game, should have been a South's player. I fear we will never see his like again, bless you Bobby R.I.P.

I saw the news of his death on TV, a very sad day for footy and sports in general. Bobby Davis was a great player and I remember watching him on TV with Lou Richards etc, also enjoyed him on Foxtels Grumpy Old Men. He just loved footy and had some terrific yarns from his playing and coaching days. Condolences to his family and friends on his passing, may he rest in peace.

Wasn't it Kelly who presented the cup in 05?

Didnt Bobby present jock mchale medal to roosy. I liked the story of him going into south and they asked who he was and he said I'm the man who's come to save your club. They told him to nick off and if I'm not
Getting mixed up he turned up to train again and got told to go.

Was great to watch on tv and on that grumpy old men on fox footy, he also is in a legends of afl book I have where they interviewed various greats and his was an interesting read. Such a happy character who was so passionate and enjoyed the game.

Loved him presenting the cup to the cats in 2009 he didn't want to let go

RIP Bobby
