Hey guys

Thought I'd start a fred to keep up to date with where the great Bulldogs man is at in his recovery. Has anyone seen him doing anything fitness or training wise? I'm not sure on timing with the ACL recovery as to when you can start doing things, all I know is it's a 12 month process.

A small part of me got excited by the thought of actually being able to buy a Bob Murphy styled wrist-watch when I saw the thread title.

I've heard some rumblings that he could return before the end of the season... very doubtful though.

Not a chance, surely?

We'd be very lucky to see him ready to go Rd 1 next year, wouldn't we?

He'd be ready, close to 12 months by then when a lot of sporting ACL's return around the 9 month mark

I would LOVE murphy to make it back. It has been done before, for everyone that has had 3 knee recos there is another who heals like wolverine from them i guess.

problem as i see it, hasn't Muph done that knee previously? Rocca the bozo dumping him in 2006? was that his left knee too? i can't see it healing quicker this time then it did the last, although wasn't that mid season? i can't remember... where are my keys... what day is it?

Honest question. Why is it in AFL players take 12 months while in Soccer which involves using you knees alot and you get tackled below the hips also they seem to be back in 6 months?
Afl is much harder and more taxing on the body than soccer is.

Going back a long way but didnt libba snr come back in a crazy 16 weeks or something. Again long time ago so stretching my memory i could be way off

It usually takes about nine months in afl. It's often said to be 12 months because players usually miss the rest of the season, and don't play again until the next season starts.

The body yes... but not the knee, or ankle or any leg part, which is what he is talking about. Soccer players heal quicker from ALL leg injuries faster then AFL players. There are quite a few factors involved, and it is nothing that can be changed when the players are turned pro. It starts in childhood when they pick up the sports they do. I have spoken to physios in the past who brought these exact things up while trying to teach me about something else entirely. They also mentioned that injuries above the legs take longer for soccer players to heal from on average.. shoulder for example.

It is to do with the nature of the sport, and 12-15 years of training and punishment that goes into your body. Breaking and healing, breaking and healing. 90% in soccer is legs, in football it is distributed everywhere. easiest way to think of it is, if you play fallout, and you build your character, you have 5 points in every body region, and you have 5 points to spend... footy you put it here and there, have 6 across the board or 7 and 6's and a 5. Soccer player would have 10 points in legs, and leave the rest 5.

That is the quick and simplified explination lol. i can actually break it down, but haven't got the time at the moment.
