Instead of the bookies robbing the punters, it would appear that a couple of disgruntled punters were trying to get some their cash back!!!!!!
Bookmaker robbed at gunpoint.
October 28, 2006 - 8:00PM
High profile Melbourne bookmaker Michael Eskander has been robbed at gunpoint at his home in Melbourne's east.
Mr Eskander, 62, was ambushed, bound and threatened with a handgun during yesterday's attack in Kew about 5.35pm.
Police said two men in a blue sedan blocked Mr Eskander in his driveway before forcing him inside and tying his hands and feet.
The armed robbers fled the home, stealing Mr Eskander's wallet and two bottles of Grange Hermitage.
The attack has rocked his family and colleagues in the horse racing industry.
In a statement, Mr Eskander said he was led inside at gunpoint and did exactly what the men demanded.
"One was with me at all times. I was lying face down on the floor, while the other searched the house," Mr Eskander told the Nine Network."
Mr Eskander's son, Alan, told the Nine Network his father would bounce back quickly after the attack.
"He's a resilient man and he'll come out the other end fine," he said.
Mr Eskander is now recuperating at his Mornington Peninsula holiday house.
Mr Eskander's colleague, Simon Beasley, is another bookmaker who recently fell victim to thieves.
"I've never had anyone pull a gun on me at this stage but I did get robbed about a month ago, out of my office," Mr Beasley said.
"It is a worry."
Detectives have advised bookmakers to reassess their personal security, in light of yesterday's attack.
One of the robbers is described as being 173 cm tall with a skinny build, a tanned complexion and wearing a blue hooded jacket.
His accomplice is of the same height, with a solid build, tanned complexion and appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s.
He was wearing a dark grey jacket with a hood.
Witnesses are urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
