Well its been a few months now but i still can't believe my celtics traded Antoine Walker to Dallas. A few years ago we made it to the eastern conference finals but now i can't even see us getting past the first round if we do make it. Its a one man team with Paul Pierce carrying the whole team on his back. Does anyone give the celtics a chance of making a championship run anytime soon? As far as surprise teams go, i am impressed with Denver and memphis.

I understand why they made the trade.Antoine had been there for 7 years and they had never seriously contended for the championship, for what all teams should acheive to do,whether you have a 1 year plan(rockets in 97),3-4 year plan(like Denver are doing now) or 100 year plan(like the bulls do at the moment).

But ainge came in and wanted to put his personal stamp on the franchise so he traded their 2nd best player to make a statement.by putting his ego in front of his brain he traded walker way too quickly and cheaply and Boston did not get compensation for a all-star calibre player. Also getting Vin baker was a stupid move.Kennt Anderson had only 1 year left on his contract at the time whilest vin had 4 years on a big contract.Vin's doing ok now but he isnt going to take you to the next level, and you are stuck with him foe another 2 years.

so all in all they are treading water ,and will need to trade some decent players and get some draft picks,or have a shocking season to get a number 1-3 draft pick to get better.unfortuatly in the nba if you a small market team(of which boston arent) its very hard to attract the big free agents.and so you have to rely on the draft.

Trading Walker was a dumb move, period.

You don't trade guys like Antoine unless you're getting massive cap relief, or a quality young player who will eventually reach Antoine's level.

The Celtics got neither of these, Raef is on a big deal, just like Walker. Raef is never going ot be more then a handy three point shooter, whilst Jiri Welsch, the thrown in, has shown a fair bit, but still not enough to justify the trade.

You must admit however, that Walker hasn't shown much at Dallas.
Wasn't happy at the trade, however I've been placated somewhat with the Ricky Davis trade.

Ah, he's shown enough to be considered a certainty for the West All-Star team.

He's averaging 17.1ppg on 43.3% shooting, 9.4rpg, 5.1apg

He is shooting the best he ever has, his rebound figures are his best since 1997, his assists tally is his second highest ever, and his turnovers are down.

How does all that show that he "hasn't shown much" in Dallas?

I doubt that he is certainty at all...

In fron of him you would have Stojakovic and Kirilenko. Not to mention that there is Garnett, Duncan and O'Neal in the front line spots. Ohh and I forgot to mention Miller.

Ohh and the fact that his shooting is best ever at 43%, from a forward spot, is laughable. The guy is IMO nothing more then slightly above average forward and the only reason he is slightly above average is because he is a great passer.

...and Zach Randolph.

He's doing as well as you can do when you got 4 other scorers on the court with him...he'll find his way onto the West bench come All-star time

Agree completely. As for him being a certain Western All Star...dont know about that.
