So many conflicting reports. They have a suspect, they dont have a suspect, explosion at the library, unrelated fire at the library. The death toll will unfortunately rise if reports f critically injured is correct. Sad times.

That photo with the guy on the roof is a bit scary.

Also Hun reporting that there has been CCTV footage released of the alleged suspect dropping off backpacks before the blasts.

WTF is the big deal about a dude on the roof? He could be there for any number of reasons, just because you didn't notice him in the first picture and need a close up, that makes it spooky?

Pretty awful shit, but this happens all the time. I don't know how you can be an adult and be surprised by how flawed humanity can be. We can be an absolutely heinous species and we'll always be like this – 'til the sun explodes.

The thing that hits me hardest about these attacks is the normality. That shift from complete normality to absolute panic. I mean, you look at 9/11 footage and it was just a beautiful day: blue, clear skies, complete normality, a low guard... then everything just switches into total panic.

A friend in the US reckons it's Boston's Patriot's Day and Tax Day. The notion of it being some Middle Eastern terrorists doesn't seem to conform to the organised terrorist's MO: no suicide bomber, a more centralised explosion...

Reason why it might be spooky is because it might actually be the bomber on the roof, watching. However you are right that it could be anyone up there, like a police sniper being up there for security reasons for a major event like the Boston marathon.

Fair call, when a story is new little details like this are indeed interesting. I compare the video in the Jill Meagher case and how we were analysing every off-screen look, etc.

So yeah, don't want to stifle the conversation, but bear in mind its stuff like this that conspiracy theorists down the track will thrive on - 'spooky' things that have no supporting evidence, facts, etc.

The unfortunate thing about terrorism, whether it be on a mass organised scale like Al Quada, A jilted citizen, or just some random nut with acess to a hardware store, is they don't usually do it with the hope to 'get away' with it. It's to prove a point, cause distruction, or just be a random campaigner.

Whether those responsible are given life in prison, sentanced to death, or have an incursion against them, their job is done.

Combatting terrorism rarely provides vengence.
