Why is he playing test cricket.

I am trying to find a pro about him but can't. His first class cricket is OK but when it comes down to International - no way.

Whitey could perform better than him and might bat better,

Bringing Willo through to the big stage was not a risk because they were playing ZIM.

Why not give Whitey or Hauritz a chance at a trial before the so what useless Hogg.

4 Tests - 38 runs at 9.5 - 129 Ov 25 M 452 Runs and only 9 friggen Wickets. at 50.2

God Damn it.

He only played because MacGill was injured

It is amazing that a man with a bowling average of 40+ in first class cricket can get the spinners mantle in our Test Team, I really like Hogg and he is a combative one day spinner however he doesn't cut it in the longer form of the game.
I
f their is no world class spinner available we might as well be blooding a youngster (namely White)

Hogg shouldn't be playing, but neither should White.

I'm Cam's biggest fan, but he needs more time to develop at state level.

But yes, he is infinitely better than Hogg.

Hogg deserved a shot on the basis of his results at the ODI level but he's really a freddy fillin while others are injured. Can't see him getting another test though.

Agree with that. Hogg is there by default and his figures in the last series were ordinary. I guess the selectors won't drop him for a White or Hauritz until both play a few games over the next month or so. Hauritz is injured for a few weeks, but I can't see the selectors doing something right and actually rewarding a player for good form. White will be a Test player this time next year.

Get over it

Why are there so many threads bagging our Aussie Cricketers?

Because -

A) They are second rate (Hogg) - or

B) They are arrogant (Waugh, Hayden, McGrath, Warne, etc. etc.)

C) Of course there are a couple of exceptions.

even with shane warne returning from suspension??

Warney will be the first picked (assuming his form is back its best). With injuries likely, White will be in the mex. He would be the third rated spin bowler behind Warne and MacGill.

Brad Hogg's test career is the result of circumstances and hard work moreso than talent.

He played well in the Aus A OD set-up against South Africa last year. Warney got injured so Hogg got the call-up.

Hogg played well in the Carlton Series and in the WC taking wickets and bowling economically. Got a run in the Windies after a good lead up game but after two tests of non-performance got the chop.

Back home McGill get's injured and with Warney out Hogg gets the call for Sydney. Another chance but upstaged by Katich. Is in India now as part of the OD team and will stay there for the time being but unlikely to get another test berth soon.

His opportunities all came through right palce right time circumstances. At the end of the day he;s isn't Warne's or McGill's bootstrap as a wrist spinner but has had a go in the time he's had. He's a likeable bloke and I don't begrudge him his opportunities or blame him for his lack of ability (compared to Warne and McGill). Good luck to Hoggy in India.

Hogg has a bowling average of 35 or something in ODI. Now you can't tell me that is good enough.

Compared to Warne it isn't good enough. But compared to others there is a case for Hogg in the immediate term.

Hogg's crap, there would be at least 3-4 spinners better playing shied cricket

There are a couple but you'd struggle to name three or four, particularly in the short form of the game.

Hauritz has potential in the OD side, although I'd suggest Hogg provides more in the field and batting.

A case could be made for McGill but for whatever reason the selectors don't see him as a OD option - too loose? Batting is poor and fielding is so-so.

No doubt some of you will think Cameron White deserves a go. But his OD form has been poor to non-existent to this point in time. Whilst his FC career is coming on, he's done swat-all to deserve an Aus A berth let alone a senior position.

Please don't start saying Michael Clarke is a better bowler - he's a part-timer with one game bowling game under his belt.

Can't think of too many others? Doherty? Davison? Casson? Zammit?? Brad Young, Mark Higgs anyone???

In the OD game Warne is still king.

Hogg is next and you could argue to Hauritz or McGill aswell.

As I said in an earlier post Warne and MCGill are miles ahead in the longer version of the game. Daylight is next.
