I actually never rated him. I still dont understand how he made the World Cup Squad because his batting was pathetic. His bowling would go ok, but not consistently. Time will tell if he can survive, but I doubt it.

He wont survive long, but I think in the one-day game he can still be a contributor for Australia, at least until Warne is back. Its inevitable that Casson will replace him though. Or move to NSW.

His batting has got progressively worse throughout his career, as he's specialised more on spin.

His one day record for Australia isnt all that bad:

Strike rate 48, average 34 with the ball

Average 20 with the bat

I remember Paul Reiffel saying something very interesting on radio earlier this year about Hogg. He said that the fact that some countries haven't seen him a lot is helping him get wickets. And that at state level the guys have no problems picking his different deliveries. Obviously the novelty factor has worn off for Hogg.

Australian wrist spinners always seem to perform better at International level than domestic, Warne being the classic example. I recall seeing footage of Richie Benaud being interviewed after a wicket haul at test level, he said the Sheffield Shield batsmen all seem to thrash him around whereas the Test players treat him with more respect.
Australian batsmen are used to wrist spinners, they are nothing mystical, that's why Hogg cannot get wickets at dometic level.

Yes, Australian batsmen are exposed to leg spin more so than other batsmen in other nations. We encourage leg spinners and hence there are enough for our batsmen to face, so we know how to play them, whereas the likes of South Africa, England, West Indies, even Pakistan, they can't play wrist spin, coz it's like something new to them. You might find that Pakistan might be great players of off spin, but they're hopeless against wrist spin, that's why they're the second national Warne has the most success bowling to, apart from England.

Don't think that apart from India, other nations play leg spin that well

.....Or he's just a hack who bowls nothing but buffet balls.
