Is there any substance to a rumour i heard a couple of days ago that you guys drafted him ONLY because Freo intended to?

i am certain that freo would have taken him and he would have been very handy in their setup with simmonds leaving. i think they were hoping they could get smith to stop gap for 2-3yrs with a view of murphy/polak to play KP down the track. brad could have easily fulfilled the role simmonds had this year.
i dont think it would have been a reason to take smith from our point of view, but it certainly does sweeten the deal.

Fremantle are irrelevant.. unless Brad Smith was going to replace Chris Connolly as coach... then we would have taken him just to stop Freo getting a decent coach 
These sort of things wouldn't happen in professional sport.

Really depends on the level of animosity between Eagle and Docker camps, but realistically its hard to imagine Trev Woodhouse cackling maniacally whilst they shaft the dockers.
As an AFL ready kpp, Smith was a better punt than anyone else available so late in the draft, that's all there is to it.

In all seriousness... we picked up Brad Smith with pick 50 odd in the draft. We need a key position forward... so does Fremantle. Unfortunately for Fremantle their first pick in the draft was 1 pick after our last pick but thats what they get for selling up everything to get Carr. Stupid decision.
The last thing the Eagles needed was another young kid at a pick in the 50s given the youth in our squad... and Brad Smith is a proven WAFL performer. On top of that the Eagles already knew him as a person as he trained with the Eagles as a kid when looking to get drafted the first time. Unfortunately he contracted an illness and sat out of footy for a few years.. then went to the country before coming back to the WAFL 2 years ago and to be fair he hasnt put a foot wrong in the 2 years back. 190 goals in 2 years is pretty much doing everything you can to show you can play AFL.
I'm genuinely excited about what Brad Smith is going to be able to do in the AFL with Chris Judd planting them on his chest on a lead. If anything he will straighten up a team that tends to kick towards the boundary line and kicks a lot of points as a result.

Brad Smith was a great pick so late in the draft
Give him a go in pre season and see how he goes
Like some, i think Mcdougal is a bit wasted playing FF at the moment because his talent is his agility. Let him run around like Riewoldt further up field.

Sad state of affairs at the weevils if they are choosing players just to shaft another club, be that Freo or anyone else.

Infact i heard it off a fellow tigers friend who moved to WA a few years ago and who i chat to on msn.
No need to call me stupid, after all it was only a question which clearly had the word "Rumour" in the title and in the post.
I just find it a little strange you guys would draft a 26yr forward when you have lots of young, tall forward prospects.

Bit of a laugh that giving picks 11,27 n a throw in 43 for Carr is too much...but West Coast in essence gave 12 n 28 for Stenglein... i never thought pick 43 would have so much weighting on it

what has Carr and Stenglien got to do with Smith?
Quit fooling yourselves Shockers.
Smith was a very handy pick up that will fill a void in the team while a couple of the younger guys develop.
