It was no attempt at humour Jibber Jabber, it's a fact that those in control at WCE have at last woken up that McDougall is a soft ******** and is not the answer to their problems at FF so they have drafted Smith. I'm no McDougall lover (those who remember my bet on EFH can vouch for that) and I agree he's not the answer at FF, that's why several times during the season I suggested Hansen should be played there instead of McDougall.

Drafting Smith is a no-brainer, the coaching staff don't have to try and turn him into a FF like McDougall. I do believe McDougall has benefited from playing the year there however and he still has promise as a floating forward around the HF line.

I don't recall ever making excuses for him.

Interesting that someone who lives the other side of the country thinks he knows what the Eagles match committee think of him. They think he is so soft they kept picking him even though he was struggling at the start of the season.

This how is soft the Eagles think McDougall is.

Young West Coast Eagles forward and follower Andrew McDougall is set to miss at least one week after copping a fractured jaw in a collision with Paul Hasleby in Saturday night’s bruising derby.

Despite McDougall’s light-hearted attempts to mislead the waiting media – ‘nothing wrong with me mate, I don’t know how you got that idea,’ he joked as he walked in to the rooms carrying his x-rays – he must be devastated to be set to miss at least this first final.


That’s the short-term prognosis, but McDougall’s effort to go back onto the ground for a fair chunk of the game despite the injury – and to put himself in harm’s way, not just look for the soft ball – will have raised his stocks immeasurably with his hard-as-flint coach.

Assistant coach Rob Wiley - another tough nut, as rovers had to be back in the 70’s and 80’s when he won a flag with the Tigers – was also impressed with the young tall.

“He was seeing the surgeon today, so we’re waiting for the full report on that, but obviously it’s probably not looking good at this stage,” Wiley said.

“But the actual extent of the injury, I’m not quite sure.”

“It was a fantastic effort – he got that really early in the game (13th minute of the first term), and as you said, he put his body on the line on a number of occasions, so it was a great effort from a young boy.”

I'd be surprised given Nornalup has a population of about 10 (but an excellent set of tea rooms, I'm sure you can get a good chardonnay there if you decide you've spent too much time in the Range Rover for the day).

However I don't think there's any doubt he's based in WA.

Well that would make sense... you don't see a lot of Kangaroos supporters... or in fact any supporters from Melbourne that seem to have such a hatred of the Eagles. Invariably its always supporters of Melbourne clubs that happen to live in WA that are such angry young men. Eg: WA Roo and a few WA based Geelong supporters. I am guessing year after year of Eagles coverage has ground them down

Back on track - ang ignoring Yak's crap - it will be interesting to see how Smith goes. The one main difference will be the quality of FB he's up against - guys like Scarlet and even our own Glassy would hardly have trouble shutting down a WAFL FF - there is a fairly big jump in athletisism.
