Brad Williams was the first Australian to be reported and censured by Ricky Ponting for breeching the Spirit of the Game new law.

Hope that he learns from this.

This whole 'spirit of the game' is the biggest load of crap to be introduced to cricket in a long, long time.

I play TCA grade cricket here in Hobart, and the only way you can gain maximum points in the system is to do ridiculous things like applaud the opposing captain as he is coming in to bat as a sign of respect... As if.

he mouthed off at Umpire David Sheppard and one of the Indian Batsmen(I think it was Laxman)

Well whatever it was, Williams copped it.

I believe the bit with David Sheppard was after he went "over the top" after celebrating a wicket.

Which was a joke. It was very similar to how he celebrated all his other wickets throughout the series. We all saw how much the game meant to them and they were pumped up, what Brad did was hardly what you would call over the top.

If he gets reprimanded for that celebration then how come Brett Lee doesn't cop a spray every time he ridiculously jumps 10 feet in the air when he clean bowls the number 11?

He didn't mouth off at Shep, Shep told him to cool down a bit after he said a few words to Laxman.

Nothing in it, it is part of cricket!

Anyone believe that Ponting actually told him off.

Find that very hard to belive they probably just had a good laugh about it over a cold beer.

Agree he proberly congralted him on it, yet told the media he told him off.

I wonder if Harbhajan Singh was reprimanded for his rather over the top send off to one of our batsman in the final (he pointed to the dressing room, amongst other things).

I quite enjoyed Williams celebration/sendoff, if it was over the top, i'd hate to see what they'd make of some of Dizzy's sendoffs (which are brilliant, btw).

Who ya play for mate?

The officials at the ACB, sorry Cricket Australia still show they are spinless cowards by not making an example of Williams and putting their foot down by fining him. If they want people to believe in their new 'spirit of the game' stuff then they must come down hard of the first few offenders or else it is just another hollow statement.

that sort of thing puts me off playing cricket. done in the right circumstance it can be very tasteful, like when a veteran is coming in for his last innings ala what the aussies did for courtney walsh or the poms of Bradman, but every innings is just sickening.
