I must confess...to being a little tired of the attempts to "dress up" our female tennis players...

Stosur had her opportunities...and sadly is just not good enough.

The title "Brave Sam Stosur wilts under Elena Dementieva", continues to beat the chest of our female tennis players, when in reality, they are just not up to the standard....I know alot of people will say "oh ...he is just having a crack because she lost", but that's not the point here...

There is a broader issue at play, (pardon the pun), and it gets back to why we accept mediocrity…

In the last few years Stosur wouldn't have even been a chance against the caliber of Dementieva. Last night she most definitely could've won. So it shows how much her game has improved.

I wouldn't call her effort brave last night. It was more error prone and once again her service game cracked under pressure. She played crap, and I'm sure Stosur would be the first to admit that. Her game is huge now though. She'll be in more winning positions against the top echelon as the year goes by. Hopefully in the meantime she'll have the confidence to win those sorts of matches. She'll be top 20 by the end of the year...

im sick to death of the cliches associated with the channel 7 commentary team

are we afraid of upsetting the little kiddies out there by saying she just lost

she lost, move on!

meanwhile let sandy roberts do the commentating, giving us an innocent childish view of things.

TURNS VOLUME DOWN!

I would have to agree with this post, thank god I'm not alone.

I fell asleep once the first set was over, but in the first set I remember Stosur maing a ridiculous number of unforced errors. Remove the unforced errors and she would've been in far higher contention.

She had triple match point against Serena a couple weeks back. Two double faults and a put away volley she hit out. Then a 4th match point, missed that. Eventually lost. Now she has a chance to take a set off Dementieva and stuffs that up too.

She makes way too many unforced errors, and I can't see her rising in the ranking to any significant degree.

Exactly....so the Channel 7 jokers orta tell it as it is....instead of covering up her dreadful mistakes and lack of genuine ability to really challenge the worlds best...As mentioned in another post...she will be right up there in 2010 (gags).... its almost as bad as the dribble they let loose when our star...soon to be champion.....world beater No 1. "Casey Dellacqua" crashed...........we are more humane to wounded animals....

Don't just restrict it to ch 7.

She was just on ABC radio too, with Gerard Whateley fawning all over her about her supposedly wonderful week. It was so bad it was embarrassing.

It was exactly the same with 'our Alicia' for years as well.

The only problem was that she was like a barge around the court in terms of mobility, and always seemed to me to get finished off pretty easily by anyone who was able to move her from side to side on the court to any significant degree.
