Point being the argument that not selecting someone who goes on to be a very good player at 32 is wrong as statistically the players that go on to have long careers from around 30 onwards ain't all that high

Quite a bit of early doom & gloom on this kid. Josh Kennedy of Sydney Swans was pick 40 in 2006, he did not play seniors until 2008, when he played 3 games (2nd yr), then 10 in his 3rd before being let go to Sydney. I'm not saying Sier will measure up to Josh in achievements, but it can take a while to develop and cut through. Ideal case Sier becomes the Cripps type we all hope for, but if not he does at least possess the physique to potentially fill other roles for the side - he will only get fitter and stronger with a couple of yrs in the system which will make him a formidable match up....I can see him becoming a roll player....lets hope he can see that too and does not buy into the ample supply of doubt dished up here.

I've never said he wont be a good footballer. There isn't enough evidence either way for me to judge that.

In his two games for the Northern Knights he performed admirably, averaging 15 disposals, three tackles and five clearances. His first against the Northern Knights was arguably the most impressive, with 16 disposals coming at 93.8 per cent efficiency.

Born in December of 1997, Sier was the youngest man on Collingwood’s 2016 list. That, plus his inexperience at TAC Cup level (he played predominantly school football in his final year of juniors), meant he was eased into his first season on an AFL list. He managed eight VFL games, averaging 10.5 disposals and 2.1 clearances, with a high of 17 touches against Geelong in round six. Sier played just one game after round seven, with injuries restricting him to the rehab group in the second half of the season.

Sier is a big-bodied midfielder who stands at 190cm and carries a playing weight of 91kg. He arrived as something of an unknown commodity, given he played only two TAC Cup games before he was snapped up at pick No. 32. Not one for the conventional junior footballing pathway, he didn't attend either the national or state combines but spent the majority of the season playing for his school, Marcellin, where he won their best and fairest, while playing senior football for Northern Football League club Banyule. Sier's build and ability to win the inside ball are among his key attributes, and looms as an intriuging prospect as he prepares for his second season at the highest level.

I was not responding to you with my first post I was responding to kappa who was saying that if you don't get a very good player with 32 it's a big bust which is rubisco because more players fail to make it at that mark than make it.

As for your question if he is worth it I have no idea. I said as much in the first post. It is simply to early to tell

Leon and Shaw were considered the two fastest players in the draft. That's why their running was compared - not endurance. Generally, Teal cup players entered the AFL system miles away from being physically ready for AFL, as they played a few representative games and weren't part of a year long program like the current U18. Wingmen often stood out on the wing waiting for the ball to be kicked to them. They often weren't hard runners like today.

Sco I'm not even hear to debate what he is worth because all I have seen is a small highlights video . It amuses me when people automatically assume a pick 32 is going to deliver a gun when more often than not picks in that range fail. I'll reserve judgement until I see the kid play a bit.

Todays topic: Brayden Sier being referred to as bottom age when drafted!

Reality is that he is as bottom age as Josh Daicos. Neither played Tac Cup in their first year of U18 footy and they have birthdays within two and a half weeks of each other. He's just young for his age group. To inform those that may be confused there is no such thing as bottom or underage under the current system.

There's a number of reasons as to why he has scope for development, but none of them are related to the myth that he was bottom age lol. Like Oxley's kicking only on Bigfooty!

Research shows that top age kids (kids in the older half of their year group) are significantly more likely to become professional sportsmen. The theory behind why this occurs is that they are more physically developed as juniors than bottom agers, which means they get more game time, more coaching and have more confidence because they are more likely to have dominated in their age group. I just find it interesting, I've got no idea how that relates to the bottom aged Sier, does it mean that he is less likely to make it because he is a bottom ager, or does it mean that he has more development left in him than the top agers have.

My worry with him is in the VFL games I've seen him play he seagulls around the packs and looks lost. He also doesn't use his significant size to advantage and seems to avoid contact somewhat.

Extra years in the system will give him fitness but if he hasn't got the nous he could be a fail.

Probably a too small sample size to tell thus far, as Schara's VFL games haven't exactly made my pants tight yet either.

At times this year I thought he looked further off AFL standard than just about any player on a Collingwood list I've seen. Quite incredible lack of urgency around the contest. Was it fitness? I don't know. But then he'd do something that made you say "Hello". Mix that with his psychical attributes he's one of thhe more intriguing players on the list imo. Will be very interested so see how he goes this year.

and talent he will surprise a few on here. some players take more time than others before it clicks

Scharanberg has shown lot more at VFL Level then Sier has done at VFL Level
