Need predictions on who is going to have a breakout season? and why?
I predict Nahas because he has really slacked off last season and he really needs to prove himself like his debut season or he is going to get axed.
I also think Rance is going to have a breakout season because he really can't fit into the team and doesn't have a specific position on the ground so he isn't as effective.
Another one is Cotchin because he is going to have a full pre-season but his pre-season training is still modified but still, breakout season, and very good for us.
I think lots of other are going to improve but then it'd be a long starting post.

Probably Cotch as the only definite. It always seems to be 4th year players that explode, something we lack going into next year.

The guys from 08 onwards are both young/undeveloped and few in number. I don't think Post/Vickery/Griffiths/Astbury etc are ready to dominate just yet. And the guys pre 06 have either made it or been delisted.

I think we'll see improvement from most of our players, but nothing exponential like Jack this year.

EDIT: Maybe throw Morton in there too, but he's been good since 08.

GOURDIS........... Will establish himself as our full back & dominate all full fowards.

ASTBURY........... Will establish himself as our centre half back & dominate all centre half fowards.

VICKERY................ Will consolidate our 2nd ruck position along the way kicking 50 goals whilst resting in the foward line

Lol.

I agree with Astbury.

I reckon he has the tools and he will show this year that he will be a 10 year CHB for the club.

Don't agree with Rance or Nahas at this stage. They just don't have the tools. Time is running out for these two

Breakout Seasons:

Foley - Won't be a breakout season as such, but given we haven't seen him play for 2-3 years, I think he will be back to his best and play around 19-20 games for the year. He will provide us with that extra midfielder that we have been missing.

Cotchin - With a full (but limited) pre season under his belt, Cotch will have the fitness base to work off to tear teams up. Also, with Foley returning, the emergence of Martin and Pick 6 likely to be a mid, Cotch will get less attention in 2011 and teams will regret it.

Post - Drafted as a 19 year old, Post's first season was very enjoyable and looked like we had a great player. Season 2 saw Post bulk up and those extra kilo's seemed to remove some of his pace and agility. With a season on the track and 'cutting' that extra weight and muscle into strength, I think Post will have a great season playing as CHF/2nd ruck/CHB when needed.

Others considered: Edwards (think it was this year), Vickery (?? not sure yet), Graham (Consistency across 22 games will do it for him)

The Flip Side......
Players who will go backwards

Astbury - I really enjoyed watching Astbury this year. He played like a player with 100 games AFL experience. He looked so calm and settled, has a great football mind and IMO looks set to be our CHB for the next 10 years. Already Asty has put on some serious size and weight and I have concerns that he will be like Post in 2010 and lose his agility/pace. This is all for the long term, so Astbury needs size NOW, however, I think 2011 will be a difficult season for him, before bursting back on the scene in 2012...

Connors - He had a breakout season in 2010 for the right and wrong reasons. His attitude let him down early, but came back in the side and dominated off that HBF. Looked tired towards the end of the season and hence is decision making / disposal suffered for it. I see him having a good season, just not kicking on like we would expect 12-14 games for him in 2011.

White - Not so much a backward season, more treadding water.. If we have a fully fit and firing 22, I can't see him getting a game, especially with the new draftees coming into the side. Will more than likely play 10 or more games at Coburg and will be close to being delisted at the end of 2011. Hoping this is not the case, however, can't see much room for improvement and think he will be weeded out.

Considered: Farmer (See White), Nahas (Role player - not sure how many games he will get), Thursfield (More than likely gone after 2011).

I hope ur right S2H but I'm leaning toward cotch having breakout in 2012 cos i think he'll need at least 2 pre's to develop his tank closer to full. I still think he'll have a great season as long a he can get all or at least 90% of this pre in. Post faded a bit this year for my mind, Astbury another pre ,weights etc Look forward cos I think he could also be something special, Viks at least another 1 and Big Ben G another 2 but can't wait to see him after another 2 potentially something special there as well. Not sure about Morton (wing or mid with stints forward) we'll see. Depends on how he's used by coaches & how hard he works at it(how much he wants it) I'd love to see him do well becos he has some weapons. Nahas just needs more size to me he's swept aside too easily and is a bit timid going head to head with bigger bodies (understanably), but this is where the big boys play and players cannot maintain there positions in teams with out being good in a number of areas of the game(those days are gone). Take JR8 high contested marks, most tackles in forward 50, leading goal kicker, lots of assists. Players have to be able to hurt the opposition in a number of ways and this is what I believe D.Hardwick meant when he said any player leaving RFC needs to be given every chance/opportunity to develop. Hope Nahas proves me wrong and tears it up next season. Nason will be good with another pre and can build on this season alrady has a great tank, a few more kilos from the gym would be great!! I could go on but I won't. Go Tigs:thumbsu:

Will be fascinating to see whether Kingy keeps improving and becomes the first AFL "midget" power forward.

Mitch might just confirm he's a consistent class act as well.

But the big question is what are we going to do at CHF.

Will Griffo's shoulders come good?

Will Posty learn how to make his fingers more sticky?

Will TV shock everyone by holding down the key post?

Or will Miller be the surprise saviour.

Our fortunes ride on the answer....

We have had a number of holes in our line up over the past 10 years or so but I reckon the biggest most glaring hole has been the CHF spot.

We had Richo running rampant all over the forward line for years & now last year Jack broke-out but at CHF we have had a conga line of muppets or in many years under Wallace, a 'midget' sized forward half with just Richo as the big go-to dude.

I guess Ottens in his prime was sort of an answer but even under the Terry's Triangle set up he played quite deep.

God how I long for an honest to goodness, textbook 'full-time' Tiger CHF to emerge from our current group of young talls to cement himself in the spot.

Pity (in some respects) that Astbury is looking so promising at centre half back because I reckon he could be a class CHF.

Nothing better at straightening up a team, especially one with a good midfield (like we are building) than to have a proper marking target at CHF to either take the grab or to at least contest hard and get the ball to ground to our advantage.

Forget Terry's Triangle, for too long we have had the Bermuda Triangle operating just forward of the centre at Richmond.

how about EVERY player needs a "breakout season"

I think Matt Dea if fit. I think he will spend alot of time on the ball and at half forward at Coburg and when he gets his chance he'll take it and keep his spot more often than not .

Contin will be pushing for an upgrade by 12 but he'll have to wait for 2012 for his shot.

The obvious stand outs are Martin , Cotchin and Morton all 3 of these players are going to have great years.

I'd like to see Post and Griff show alot this year and I'm sure they will.

Andy Collins will win Carltons B&F this year in a canter.

hicks- has tanked on and it will help his performance-breakout season for the midgy

Tambling. Crows will play him off the back flank all season as we should have done for the last three seasons when he showed that was his best posi.

Farmer - the coaches love him and by the end of the season most here will too.
Post - second year blues out the way and a chance to secure himself a spot in the 22 as either CHF or second ruck will give him the chance to shine.
Vickery - similar to Post albeit he'll start as a forward and will then push into the ruck as the season progresses. By seasons end I'm tipping him to become our first ruck.

Depends what you regard as a breakout season. They may improve a fair bit but most talls aren't going to have breakout seasons in their 3rd year (Post, Vickery). That means making everyone stand up and take notice. Jack just had his in his 4th ahead of schedule. Edwards ditto 4th year. A lot of the 2006 did this year in fact.

Obvious candidate is Cotchin. Coming into his 4th year and from the 2007 draft. Rance fits the bill too but doubt that will happen.

I guess it depends whether you're predicting a breakout season compared to their previous standards or AFL standards.

Gourdis will lock down full back and will push one of thursfield and mcguane into the delist zone.

Dan Connors will come close to AA off the half back.

Browne will play 15-20 games and will go well ahead of Vickery in the ruck pecking order and will challenge Gus for the #1 ruck.

In terms of our list and where we're at having a breakout season to me is more to do with establishing themselves in the 22, which I'm confident Post and Vickery will both do. As for Farmer, I expect him to establish himself as a pretty solid small defender, was really starting to find his feet before he got injured, in that he was taking the game on and was becoming an important part of the backline.

Picking Cotchin is too easy as everyone expects him to finally step up, we'll be a much better sides when a few players who we're not expecting much from start to have real breakout seasons.
