Hows he shaping up for 2009?
Will he get a run?

Tadhg Kennelly said afew months ago that Murphy was very close to getting a game in 2008 but he injured himself and as a result wasnt available.

Though reading Kennelly's comments its safe to say that Brendan Murphy will play atleast afew games in 2009.

In order to do so he needs to be elevated onto the senior list. As it stands he is still on our rookie list.

He'll be in our starting 22 towards the end of the season when we're gearing up for a Qualifying Final. ;)

The real question is what position will he play.

Murphy is 197cm tall and weighs 90kg (it would be good if he can put on 5kg) and from what ive heard he has a tank which is almost as big as Ryan O'Keefe's (from last years 3km time trial). A person with his physical attributes can play in many different positions

Midfield - Like Adam Goodes
Defence - CHB (he would make a very good defender with his pace and height)
Forward - CHF (his stats on paper are better than Buddy Franklin's)
Ruck - He is tall enough to play in the ruck

Not in the ruck, but yes the rest easily.

With his tank wasted at CHB, might start there, but long term CHF

So i guess this question is directed at people who watch the reserves. What is Murphy's kicking and marking like?

I just keep imagining in afew years

FF - Lewis Johnston
CHF - Brendan Murphy

CHB - Craig Bolton
FB - Mike Pyke (i have faith in him)

I'd really like to see him in defence as that's where we have less people to fill key positions. Forwards are ok for the moment.

Though of course with his motor we could see a revolutionary concept of a CHB + CHF being the same player with him drifting between the positions in a game.

Cant only one Rookie be brought up 2 play seniors games? IMHO Kristin Thornton would get a game before Brendan if this is true

After Round 11, one rookie may play in the senior team. However, the club can promote any rookie if we have any players on the long term injury list. We'd be naive to think that this won't happen.

If Fosdike ends up on the LTIL then Thornton will be promoted, with Murphy elected as the player allowed to play after round 11.
