What do people think is the plan with Brennan? Is this a sneaky bet on a talented but star-crossed youngster whose best years ahead of him? Or is there a particular role that they have in mind? I must say his selection completely caught me off guard - I know very little about him or his prospects. Any inside goss or educated guesses?

I don't know really. If he performs in the seconds then he is likely to be elevated.

But he was a great pick up.

Pure recruiting genius. He suffered like any highly rated kid does in Melbourne when injuries and a ******** list get the media wolves circling. I can't believe they delisted him given that he's never been fully fit in any of his years at the Hawks. He's been given a chance away from the pressure of the media. I'll bet the rest of the comp has already forgotten about him, which is brilliant for us. We're getting a good as first round draft pick (already with 3 years dev. under his belt) for the price of a rookie. That means we could easily afford to have him around for the next two years. If he still hasn't stepped up then fair enough. We got the bargain of the draft, no doubt in my mind.

Can take a grab and worth every bit of a rookie pick to see what happens. Seems like another Grundy/Vogels mature age punt which hopefully comes off. Also in interviews i've seen, sounds like a reasonable bloke and appreciative of the chance he's been given (and who wouldn't coming from the Hawks to a flag chance).

Umm ..guys wait till you see him kick...
I wouldnt get too carried away.
You cant carry guys like this on your list these days.If you cant be elevated in a 12 run losing streak, what hope are you.
Its above the shoulders with Luke.:)

Dunkley was a great kick. If the Swans had traded for Brennan I'd be much more sceptical. But for a rookie selection, it's a clever move. I understand that he couldn't get a game last year but that had a lot to do with the knee tendon issues he's had since he was drafted. If we can get him fully fit we've pulled off another one.

Grundy was drafted (as a rookie) as an 18yo - hardly a mature age punt!

He made his senior debut the following year, so was hardly an OAP either when he first got his chance. For a KPP that is a fairly young age to be debuting, particularly at the Swans.

Glass and Dunkley are/were key defenders. Brennan is not.

There's already a couple of suspect kicks in the Swans midfield. I see no reason why we put another one in the best 22. Marking ability or not. As for putting him forward or back - we've got Bolton, Kennelly, Barry, Dempster and Vogels ahead of him for positions in defense (as well as LRT as our only genuine tall defender) and up forward we have Hall, O'Loughlin, O'Keefe, Davis, Vogels, Grundy, Schneider, Everitt and the list goes on.

He's a hail-mary selection at best.

Grundy was always speculated as someone who would be taken in the national draft given he had a mature age body having played seniors in SA I believe. He was always seen as someone who could come in straight away to senior level given his body shape (but maybe not form). May not be mature age, you've got me there but he was always seen as a player who wasn't going to be a project.

Any chance that Brennan could morph himself into a Barry-type undersized FB? If he's strong enough, he might be a chance there.
