Last night Jared Brennan debutted for the Lions. If you remember this is the guy we wanted for our first round but the lions sneaked in before us and we took Walsh.
Great start and fitted right in. Oozes confidence, runs with in one hand. Amazed he didn't go higher. A good big man always better than a good small man.

We can only hope Walsh is this good.

A couple of goals here or there last year and we would have been watching this kid's party tricks for the next 12 years. The absolutely frightening thing is that he has a fair bit of development to come, and if his work ethic on the field is anything to go by, he'll leave no stone unturned in getting the absolute best himself over his career - he's only gonna get better skilled, stronger and smarter from here on in. F***!! :(

Special mention should go to The Doctor who had Brennan down as his preference for our first pick since June.

Would have been nice to get Brennan but it was out of our hands. From what I have seen of Walsh and the players that were taken after our first pick I am still pretty happy with our choice.Very much liked what I have seen of Walsh despite his obvious lack of bulk.Warming to some of the other later choices aswell.Cam Wight has adapted far better than I expected as has Murphy.

Hey x box x i agree with you I was verry suprised that we didnt go for salopek with our first pick .I think port were pretty excited when he was still around for there pick everyone expected him to go sooner than he did.

Although I was a little plssed at the time, I've almost turned full circle on our lot and haven't seen Minson yet. My post earlier was in no disrespect to Walsh - I reckon he'll turn out to be a good player (and he'll be even more valuable given the structure of our list), and it's no fault of his own that the bloke that went before him was an absolute freak. Just thinking "what if"/ being a masochist, I guess.

Interesting Westy
What do you,DB, Doc and OS think about the theory that a good tall beats a a good small? I suppose it hard to see the furture and antything can happen.
Gooddard played today and kicking looked a bit off at one stage.
From what I seen Brennan shopuld have gone #1.

A good tall beats a good small purely for the fact that they are so rare.Goddards looked a bit jittery today but he still had a bit of an influence at times. The way I read it is that Brennan always had the most out and out star potential but was considered a risk.I doubt many recruiters in the league would have taken him at pick 1 or 2 because of any risk involved (didnt see much of him in 18s so feel free to correct me anyone).I guess it makes it easier to take the risk on him when you have won back to back flags.Westy masochist is the first word that popped into my head when I saw this thread.
Walsh hasn't done much yet but he has taken a few grabs that have future key position player written all over them. Not at all unhappy we didnt take Salopek as he hasn't impressed me that much.Too much lip for a kid who hasn't done anything yet.On the other guys

Faulkner-Lived up to expectations so far.

Minson-Haven't seen him in a game situation yet but he is big:) Jury still out.

Murphy-Was dirty at the time and probably a little harsh on him.Done nothing wrong so far.Was ****ed at the time because there was still plenty of highly rated guys left.Still a bit to do though.

Wight-Adapted far better than I thought he would.Wouldn't have been expected to play seniors by now but has played and done his bit in those games.A smother and a couple of contested marks spring to mind as things I have seen him do this season that he just didnt do at under 18 level.

There are still some guys out there that I reckon we might regret not getting but we wont know for a couple of seasons.
