Look, i really admire the kid.
I want him in the team, but unfotunately, i cant see him getting a gig.
I think it would be a good i dea to trade him for a pick because he would go reasonably high.
What sort of pick would he warrant? first round?
Also, could he be groomed into the half back flank that would be handy for us?
cheers

The reason you can't see him getting a gig is because we have had NO midfield injuries this year, and Selwood has slipped in as a ready made player.

What happens if a couple go down and we have traded away our depth and require a guy like Davenport to cover Corey or Bartel.

Just because he can't get a game now does not mean you get rid of him.

That may be the clubs view, but if he is starved for opportunities then he may look elsewhere. Out of contract at the end of the year?

well, i know he hurt his wrist before. but if hes fit, i cant blame him for leaving if duds like byrnes and gardner who i see have been picked this week gets a go in front of him!!!

Thank you, that's pretty much the crux of the matter.

Well, he's not fit and Byrnesie and Charlie play different roles. I hope to God he stays! Agree with earlier post that he is similar to Montagna - interesting comparison.

Hardly 'starved' of opportunities. Had injuries at bad times. Debuted in his second year (about par), played 8 games in a season where he broke his arm, played 5 games this year in the top side where there has been no midfield injuries and he hasn't been available every week. Hard to make a push into a successful side based on form when you aren't playing large amounts of games in a row.

Next year will be his 4th at the club, and he is definitely looking at securing a spot in our regular 22.

You cant keep him in the twos because when his contract expires he will just walk and you will end up with nothing at all. To good a player to be wasting in the twos. But it is a good problem for the cats when a player like Brent cant get a game. Cant see him hanging around to long though cant blame him either.

Please read my latest post. We are not 'keeping him in the two's'. I'm pretty sure Brent himself would understand the reasons he has been unable to get a regular game. If he wants to leave a side that is looking to challenge for a flag for the next few years, so be it. If I were him, I wouldn't.

We have been really fortunate in that we haven't sustained any midfield injuries and that Selwood has been so damn good. Hopefully Geelong is able to keep a hold on him. I could see him maybe next year joining the interchange and being rotated along with Kelly, or maybe if Kelly were to push forward a bit more like he did against Adelaide prismal might be able to get a permanent selection.

Too late this year though.

this thread has a certain de ja vu to it

Yup, sure does.

Been does once (or a hundred times) before.

Brent wont be silly and want to leave an opportunity like he has with the Cats. You can't predict the future and he could be called up anytime. In fact I'd suggest that you would be hard placed to find ANYONE not wanting to be a part of the mighty Cats :D

Davenport is a long way down the list.

- Kelly, Chapman, Rooke are all capable of playing in the middle, possibly it's even there preferred position.
- Hunt can play more game time freeing up Enright to spend more time in the middle.
- Stokes is starting to have bit parts in the middle.
- Gamble & Djerrkura will be pushing for selection next year.

Davenport barely appears on the radar as yet.
