Just a quick post about young Reilly.

A few questions:

1) When is he out of contract? Is there any chance he'll eye a return to Melbourne?

2) How highly do you guys rate him? As in, if you HAD to lose him, what would be adequate compensation. What would you be happy with if he'd already told the Crows he was going back to Melbourne?

I won't lie, I'm a Carlton supporter. I'm just curious about how highly Brent is rated by Crows people.

Hypothetical swap: Would you take pick 22 (give or take: our second round pick) AND Luke Livingston (or Barnaby French - said to be keen to return to Adelaide) for Reilly?

Livingston - 190cm KPP former pick number 4 in the Angwin draft. Good prospect who just hasn't blossomed under Pagan.

French - Another back-up ruck option. Not getting any younger, but surely Clarke is a chance to retire at the end of the year (31 at the start of next season). If Clarke retires, would you look at another ready-made back-up to Biglands? (although Hudson isn't chopped liver and you look likely to try for Wood in the draft).

This isn't a wind-up. I'm just curious. Cheers guys!

What a strange 1st post:confused:
Are you him? and trying to establish your worth?
Brent is worth plenty to the Crows, and I doubt that Carlton have anything we would exept as suitable compensation.
I don't know when his contract is up.
It's possible for him to go this year though, but for not only a quality youngster but a reasonable pick also.

I assure everyone: I am not Brent Reilly.

Reilly hasn't set the world on fire, but has great potential. No doubt if he signals an intention to leave (not to say he necessarily will, but.... if), his value in a trade drops.

Could you expect to get a better offer than Pick 22 and Livo/French? This draft isn't chopped liver. Could you get a better pick for a player who hasn't yet cemented a position?

Again: not a wind-up. I like Reilly. I'm just keen on your opinions.

Look I know Brent has suffered from limited chances and form due to injury and other related circumstances, but from what I've seen of him so far he does not look like a player worthy of the first round pick we cashed to obtain him.

He's in his third season now and the time has come to produce, however he is still an unproven quantity in every sense (a fringe player to be blunt) and is yet to produce even a 20-possession game - which for a midfielder of his supposed class is puzzling to say the least.

I don't know what to make of him... but on current evidence and lack of any real glimpse into the ability he supposedly possesses I fear we may have another Picioane/Eccles/Gallagher on our hands.

We have too many players loitering at West Lakes with unfulfilled potential - to the point where the club is now at critical mass - 4 wins for the season and an unsure future.

EDIT: tpyos

In my opinion, putting Livingston in that deal actually makes the deal worth less - because it means that's another grade a hack on our list taking salary cap space that could've been used on a player. Such as Reilly.

Not sure about that. 8 Clubs were keen on Livo last year. His wage would be nominal: not much more than starting wage.

Make no mistake, Livingston is no "hack". He's just been marginalised by the Pagan set-up. That doesn't mean he lacks talent, and has nothing to offer. Undoubtedly he's a punt, but is a punt that could pay off spectacularly.

Personally, I like Livo. I wish he had opportunities in the Carlton team. But, that's unlikely to happen these days.

But, having said that, I totally understand your reluctance on Livo. Might have to do a better sell!

But, ok..... What do you think about French? What chance Clarke to retire (or to be retired?)

Reilly has shown stuff all in his two and a half years here. So its slightly surprising that you would be so keen on him. I think his contract was renewed last year, so it would last until the end of next season, at least.

I know there was one Crows supporter here (Carmelo Anthony?) who was keen on Luke Livingston. Not me though. He's shown nothing so far.

But Livingston plus a high second rounder is about all we'd get for Reilly on what he's shown so far.

But I'd rather persist with Reilly.

Walker for Reilly? Hmmm....... no

DaveW: I think you've solved my dilemma. At the end of the day, my offer is ok, but not spectacular. Reilly himself has been ok, but not spectacular.

Ultimately, I dare say the Crows would persist with Reilly, at least for the duration of his contract. Yep, first rounders generally get 2 or 3 year deals. If 2 years, I reckon he must have re-signed last year. Actually, now that you mention it, I think he did re-sign last year.

The only way we could get Reilly is if Brent himself walked into Craig/Wallace/Eade/Jonas' office and said "look, I know I'm contracted, but I want to go back to Melbourne. I'm not staying in Adelaide". If he said that, you might think "well, stuff him. He hasn't shown much, and pick 22 + Livo or French is ok." And, as you say, you'd be unlikely to get a better offer than that. But, if Reilly was happy in Adelaide, you'd keep Brent because his best is potentially brilliant.

Cheers guys!
Actually, I'll tell you why I ask: On the Carlton Supporter's Club (www.csc.gotdns.com), we were doing a mock trade with a Melbourne fan to get Darren Jolly to Carlton. I know I know: my life sounds rivetting doesn't it! But, he implied a swap for Reilly would be adequate for Jolly. So, Reilly would end up at Melbourne. Between you and me, Carlton wouldn't really take a punt on Reilly unless you took only Livingston for him.

So, if any of you want to come down to the CSC and represent Adelaide in a swap, you're most welcome. If, instead, you have real-lives, have fun with them!

Agree.
IMO French = Marsh.

Livingston + pick 22 trade has got some merit and could proberbly get through if Brent does want to go home.

As others have said, Reilly has produced very little so far. For this reason I can't imagine his trade value would be very high at all. I would take a first round pick for him if offered. But I doubt anyone would offer that.

The offer you suggested seems reasonable. If Reilly wants to leave then that is about all we can expect for him and I'd really look at it (I don't know a lot about Livingston). But if he doesn't wish to leave then I would prefer to gamble on him actually making the grade, because the Crows appear to really rate him highly. And sometimes players do take a while, such as Hentschel.

Reilly's one of those players that Neil Craig really needs to look at over the next 9 weeks. He needs opportunity, and now until the end of the year is as good a time as any to give it to him.

****

French would be a shade better than Marsh, I reckon, but that's not saying an awful lot. We have a young bloke at Carlton named Adrian DeLuca, and we're looking at his brother Fabian for our first pick in the National.

Put it this way: you can have French, Livingston AND pick 22, for Reilly, and whichever of these blokes you'll swap:

Doughty, Gallagher, Ladhams, Massie, Mattner, Shirley.

Not sure how highly you rate these guys, but we'd take whichever you rate the lowliest (ie, there must be at least one in that group that'd be a chance for delisting). We'll take the WORST.

Ok, guys, I've got an offer for you:

Pick 22 (Carl) to Melbourne
Luke Livingston (Carl) to Adelaide
Russell Robertson (Melb) to Adelaide
Darren Jolly (Melb) to Carlton
Brent Reilly (Adel) to Melbourne
Pick 20 (Adel) to Melbourne

How does that sound?

Not my idea, jmorg. Melbourne's idea. just floating it

jc67: Cool your jets. Not doing much to diminish the Melbourne stereotype of a Crows fan (which, I might add, I don't ascribe to). I'm playing nice. You play nice or don't answer. A simple "no" would have sufficed.

boys and girls lets all calm down!!

this is why its called a mock or in other words "fantasy" trade because it is done by a group of people on the internet with no idea of player values to their individual clubs!!

Its Easy to see players talent once its realised.
The tough call is to see the talent B4 its blossomed.

Reilly has had a tough run, moving interstate and spate of injuries.
This guy has real talent, and with some game time to get in a groove, will demonstrate why anyone who says he should be offloaded, probably was on the Fremantle committee that traded Macleod for Groom:p

GOLD :D

Give the bloke a break. He will come good. I am pretty confident that Reilly will have a good 2nd half of the year and might come out all guns blazing next year under new coach.
