Guys I am sorry to say he isn't going to be the elite midfielder we want him to be..
I honestly think the time has come to accept he plays his best footy in the half back line.
It's not a bad thing IMO, but the moment he cops a tag he's out of the game.
We need the pill in his hands and he's certainly not getting any in the guts..

Where has the Deledio of last year who made AA from the midfield gone?

Man it's my opinion.. Half back into midfield is his posie I reckon, but mainly down back..
Even half forward would be better because I'd he cops a tag, he struggles and he's copping one ever week now

I agree with you, I'm just confused because he looks a totally different player to last year. Teams must have worked out to follow the Ross Lyon model to focus the attention on him instead of Cotchin.
Very frustrating

Look at Watson. Takes a heavy tag every week and dominates every week and dare I say it Deledio is better in every attribute accept one above the shoulders.

Lids and Cotch are clearly carrying injuries ATM. Lids was poor today but was injured and Cotch started to stand up In the second half.

With the return of Ellis and conca in the next few weeks, plus if we get arnott in as another big body in the midfield, we'll see lids start playing good football again.

What a stupid thread.

Strained his knee early in a nasty twist on landing, went down to the rooms then came back. After that could barely get out of a jog not because he didn't want to but because he couldn't. Should be praising him for trying to play through it giving us another rotation not bagging him.

Not bagging him at all dude I honestly think he would serve us better playing on half back with bursts into the midfield but hey spear me all you like

The problem with this tactic is he will just get tagged closer to goal. He just has to work through it but to be fair thought he tried hard with a twinge in the medial ligament early. We just have to work harder as a midfield group.

You do realize he hurt his knee in the second quarter? it hampered him for the rest of the night, silly statement to make

Yes I know dude.. How did he go in the other games we lost? I like him in the back line..

It's irrelevant about his injury the point is he only plays good games in the middle when he isn't tagged and can get free. He is a loose ball players, it's not a bad thing but needs to be identified by the coach pretending to know what he is doing. Half back or wing he can be elite there. Forward line he is useless because he has nowhere to run.

It's not silly at all. The more Port Adelaide play, the more Brett's game against them was, meh.
It's a problem dude. His big game efforts don't stack up.
If he's not an extractor, play him down back.
That's what Wang is saying, and I agree.

average yes, but so were most of the other players..

Probably poor timing this thread I will happily concede that..
I'm actually knocking lids I love him a s a player, I just reckon he could be utilised elsewhere to better effect

He was coasting before the ankle injury.
Gun, who goes missing when it counts.

I agree. I don't think Lids does enough. Even when we're playing well, I dont feel like he's as damaging as he should be.

I think he should have been a midfielder during the period he was at the HBF. I know he couldnt shake a tag then, but perhaps at this point in time, when we're trying to make a run for the finals, he could deal with it better.

I'd rather Lids have 20 possies and be damaging than the 30 possession player they've tried to turn him in to.

Confuses me as to why they dont give him more time in the forward line because his marking and lead up play is fantastic.

We need to think of more creative ways to break his tag.

If any coaches read this forum, try himm full forward and let him out mark them

I'd like to play him up forward more too. It does mean we concede defeat in the middle, but we can't keep asking Brett to be someone with an elite mentality to push through difficult tags. That's not why he's a good player.

His reaction to Nathan Brown's worst on game votes is a pretty clear indicator of his personality, if I was an opposition player I'd be able to get into his head too. And that's fine, he's talented enough to shut people up but I don't remember many times when he's turned a game around. If he starts poorly, we have to wait until next week. He rarely turns it around drastically mid-game like Dusty or Trent do. That's why we should play him forward when beaten by a tagger.

Just accept the fact be doesn't have what it takes to turn himself around mid-match. Throw him forward to give him confidence and benefit the team.

Coach killer who's next spot should be Coburg . His best football was under The Blade who seen him for what he is and put the heat on him , his spot within the side should be conditional of his form in big games . He has got away with to much for to long based on his games or efforts when it doesn't count . In big games or big moments in games he goes AWOL .

Firstly, well done to Deledio coming back onto the field injured. Hopefully he hasn't made his injury worse.

Deledio doesn't impact games as we would like, in his current position in the midfield. Maybe it is time we stop playing him as an inside midfielder and let him play as an outside midfielder. He could take Grigg's position in the side which be a upgrade. Deledio's kicking skills are a lot better than Grigg's and Deledio would set us up better going inside 50. Then someone like Arnot, Helbig or Tuck when he comes back into the side can play as an inside midfielder.

What I don't get is why we don't throw him to full forward. If he's not winning the footy send him to the goal square where he can use his pace and hands overhead.
because our midfield depth is already thin we don't have the luxury to send him fwd.

interesting to see how he pulls up, he might not go over to Perth if any swelling exists.
