I've been watching the reply of East Freo v Peel seniors from the weekend and he showed quite a bit. Looks like he has quite a big future ahead of him.

IIRC he kicked 4 goals and had 25+ possessions against the bigger bodied WAFL players. He's also eligible under the father/son rule. Not sure if he's eligible for the draft this year, but surely we should consider drafting him with our third round pick?

Farren Ray showed quite a bit as well, but I'd already seen him play prior to this game.

He seems to be progressing very well after a late start to WAFL football.

If he keeps progressing at this rate, he could be a very secure pick up under the F & S rule. He would be a "mature" recruit so he would be fighting for a senior berth pretty well straight away.

From what I've seen he is worth a punt, but is he the type of player required by the club?.

Still remember his 7 goals against Victoria playing at FF when he wasn't a FF lol.

Ah yes, wasn't that at Subi in 1986? I saw the replay of that game about a month ago. What a thriller!

And cheers for the link to that article Ripper, haven't read today's paper yet. :)

When reading the article it was interesting to note that "under AFL rules Fremantle has first call on the sons of any WAFL players who played at least 150 games with East Fremantle, South Fremantle, Swan Districts, Perth or Peel. West Coast has the pick of the other four WAFL clubs."

Isn't Swan Districts in the far east/Midland area? Claremont is also closer to Fremantle than Perth.

Wouldn't it be better to have East Freo, South Freo, Peel and Claremont aligned to the Fremantle FC instead of Perth and Swan Districts?

As a long (very) time Black Ducks supporter, the only reason I can see them aligning the Duckies to Freo, is that for some reason the club has always had close ties with the Freo clubs (especially the Gummies) in helping each other off the field.

In the early 80's, the Gummies loaned some of their "discarded" players to help win a premiership or three. Thanks for Melrose, Brenton, Neesham, no thanks for Taylor.

Claremont may be seen by some as more tied to the West Coast coat tails, but then they've had a large input into the Freo club.

Yes that 1986 SOO was great, and Pasties Peake showed what an old man can do. The word champion is over used but Peake was a bonafide champion.

How times have changed. Big Ron only got 8 VFL players back for that one and the rest of the team were WAFL players. I remember the media worrying about big men and Big Ron said "we have enough big men in the WAFL " .
And Laurie Keene (Subiaco) & Paul Harding (East Fremantle) did the rucking.
Then they worried about the lack of a FF and he surprised everyone by playing Bomber Peake at FF. The rest is history Bomber kicked 7 goals on 3 of the best FB's that Victoria had produced. He tok Marks in front, from behind from the side, on the lead , any way you could beat a FB he did it. And he was getting on a bit then, must have been 32 or so.
