I'm glad it's sorted - provides some stability.

Well done Wolfpac13 on the early call.

Bit meh from me, could see this going either way for us. I don't think Ratts is to blame for our mediocrity given where the list is at but I also struggle to see him getting much more out of the team in the next 2 years.
I suppose you need an option. Let’s just imagine we have spoken to clarksons manager and he has said no way. Where do you go from there? Another untried coach? As you said the list isn’t great. Matter of fact the mids are average and our wins or losses seem to be on the form of our rucks.

I suspect Ratten's chances of success are directly linked to what our brigade of young mids can do in 2022 after their exposure to the top-league this year.

Grow into the role and start putting pressure on anyone not named "Steele" and our engine room starts to look a lot stronger. Regress to become a list-clogger, and we're probably screwed.

I see Purple was pretty effusive of what Windy brings to the table in his Sliding Doors writeup

I, for one, hope this plays out well.

Yeah very true, but I think it's not unlikely that we miss finals this year and say start next year with some performances like our horror show against Essendon/Swans, at which point we would ideally be looking elsewhere.

But yeah we're in a tough spot atm where Ratts hasn't been bad enough to get the arse, but hasn't been good enough that re-signing is a no brainer.

Yep that’s all true. I think the chances of playing finals this year are poor but I don’t think we have the list for finals yet anyway. A hell of a lot depends on young kids like windhanger owens Milera for next year. Probably unfair and mostly impossible for them to have huge impact but the midfield needs a boost whoever was coaching. I think we were in a lose lose situation not re signing him. Cop it off the media for overrating the list and then start again with an inexperienced coach.

Good luck to him. Pressure on him doesn't go until we are a serious finals side. Hopefully he doesn't drop the rope now that he's signed. If we miss finals this year and he starts badly next year he might not make it through his first year of the new one. The club has backed it's horse now and have their fortunes wrapped up with his.

Then we aren't playing finals next year either. We probably don't get them as massive contributors for a few years. Ratts would be long gone by then. This side should be good enough and we have beaten most of the good sides in the last couple of years. We have spent up big on assistants and players, this isn't Richo's list.

He isn’t going to be sacked during the first year of the extension. Why not try this as a starting point. Even if we don’t play finals this year then hopefully he can improve the list and the structure so we start well ext year and they even like extending further.

I said if we have a bad year next year the pressure will blow the roof off and the coach always goes first.

No it isn’t a richo list. It is better but whose list above us is worse? No idea why we aren’t playing finals next year. I’m not suggesting the second year players become stars. A 20% improvement gets then into the top 15 of our list instead of 15 to 25. And remember the dogs list got them to a grand final this year and they are below us. Just because you beat good sides occasionally doesn’t mean you beat them regularly. It just doesn’t work like. That. Consistency is part of being a good footballer.

Nice bloke and a decent coach.

After analysis, I'm not sure there are too many options out there.

Go Saints and good luck Ratts.

I think someone had it right. He's been average enough to not get the arse but not move us forward, not quite shit enough for us to move him out for Yze or something bold. It's the Richo years mantra, safety in mediocrity. Sitting just out of the 8 after spending so much money and energy is a catastrophic waste or time and resources.

More likely that comes from guys like Clark and Coffield still. Doubt second year kids are carrying us much. I'd say Freo have a worse list but better game plan. Only Carlton, Melbourne, Geelong and Brisbane have obviously better lists than us and not by heaps.

You would make happy Hammond unhappy. It’s like you overrated the list so now if everything we do is a waste yet if we didn’t do it you are one of the first to complain. At the moment he has coached us to one finals and one where we didn’t make finals. That’s fact as is sitting outside the 8 yet footy has 22 games and you are calling it catastrophic waste of time and resources. Catastrophic. Could you go more overboard. Just out of interest what should the club have done considering you have to spend the money anyway. They can’t bank it.

Well I’d suggest a non biased person is caling crap on that. afterall before thr start of the season we were picked around 14th on average and the reason most jad us there was the list. and i explained that tge sevond year players arent carrying us. they are your words. they can improve us though because they play in the most important area on the ground. Obviously the others you mentioned are more important
