CATS SLAM ‘FOREST GUMP’ FIXTURE

GEELONG powerbroker Brian Cook has revealed that his club is disappointed with its 2008 draw.
The reigning premier travels to AAMI Stadium tonight in a re-match of last year’s grand final, when the Cats humiliated the Power to the tune of 119 points.
It is one of few examples in recent history where a re-match scheduled for round one hasn’t been hosted by the reigning premier.
Cook told “The Age” that he felt that the way the AFL arranged the draw was a guessing game.
“I have no idea at all,” he said.
“With the fixtures, you don’t know what are going to get, it is like a box of chocolates,”
Cook said that he was still fuming that Collingwood and Geelong will face each other only once this year.
The two clubs attracted over 80,000 people to their round sixteen blockbuster last year and many experts have called their preliminary final clash a classic encounter.
“I am still trying to get over that,” said Cook. While the AFL told “The Age” that it has been many years since a reigning premier hosted a home match in round one, Cats fans may have to wait until round three to unfurl the premiership flag they have waited 44-years to see.
Geelong host Essendon at the Telstra Dome in round two, but is expected to unveil the 2007 flag to the faithful when they host the Demons at Skilled Stadium a week later.
Nice to see i'm not the only one still trying to get over the fact that we play Collingwood and Essendon only once!!
Fixture's a joke in more ways then one with regard to Geelong.
