can anyone tell me what happened to BT towards the end of the '82 season, and why he didn'tlay finals. My memory tells me he was travelling pretty well at FF with Roach and Dunne changing in the Ruck.

BT was'nt a bad player but had a bit of an attitude rated himself highly.
i did'nt like him much as a person but he did'nt have a bad record as a FF,
I don't think francis bourke liked him much because i can't recall him playing any finals football in 1982.

His knee blew out before the Grand Final but I am certain he played in the semi against Carlton as our talls caught them off guard. And then thier smalls caught us off guard in the big one.

You are not the only one who doesnt like him. His co commentators treat him with the same disrespect that Jacko got when he was on the panel. Liked him as a player though even when he was at the scum.

Boofhead

And if i ever hear that " MMM RRRRREEEEEEEOOOORRKSS Football "Again I am going to go Bunta

In 82 i think it was pretty much a case of Disco being the preferred option .

What year was it that Mark Jackson led the goal Kickers in the under 19`s , BT was the leading goalkicker in the Reserves and Disco won the coleman ?

Pretty sure that happened

I was actually upset when Jacko left us although we had no real place for him with Roachy. Didnt like to see exciting prospects leave the club regardless of our set up.

I didnt realise at the time that he was the type of self centered,in it for the buck type of person where success would not happen around him.

Roachy was the preferred option. That didnt want to go into the final with 2 full forwards
To this day I'm still convinced Bourke not playing Taylor for team balance cost us the premiership.
I was not a big fan of Ian Sartori and was dumbfounded when I saw him run out with the team. When I realised BT was missing I thought it was a poor choice of replacement.
Then when I got home already dejected to discover Taylor was not missing due to any injury I was the maddest I've ever been after the footy.
I've never heard BT talk about it but he must have been upset because he was a star at FF in the 1982 season. Roach was also starring as a ruck-rover. The team balance had been good all year.

Im pretty sure it was as follows:

Roach in the seniors
Jacko in the reserves
and a bloke called Lane in the Under 19s.

I think Bt was still in his WA country town back then.

1980
VFL Premiers. M Roach leading goalkicker, 112 goals. K Bartlett winner of Norm Smith Medal for best player in Grand Final. M Jackson kicks 131 goals in Reserves (record). P Lane leading Under 19's goalkicker with 107 goals. Under 19's win Premiership. K Bartlett kicks 21 goals in finals series. Captain: B. Monteath. Caoch: T. Jewell.

BT came in 1982. So did Rioli, and they clicked from the very first game where we came from well behind against North to win mostly due to those two.

From memory that was also the first game for the Krakouer brothers.

First time we saw an electronic scoreboard at the MCG and Phil Egan kicked the ball in the wrong direction

Peter Lane was a kid from Blackburn, couldnt break in like a few others.
Used to fly down on weekends & play in Tassie after he left Richmond.
Ended up kicking regular bags in the EDFL & amateurs.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH I stand corrected , i knew we had the leading goal kickers in all three divisions at some stage, i remember it because somewhere in my treasure trove if shyte which my wife has conveniently hidden somewhere is a footy record from i think 1981 which has disco , Jacko and Lane on the front cover showing off thier leading goal kicker medals

You're probably right. But I always blamed the Carlton scumbag that broke Bruce Tempany's leg for costing us the game. Most still blame the half time showgirl.

I remember in the lead up to the grand final the media were full of stories about Richmond being too top heavy up forward with Roach, Cloke and Taylor. I thought it was a crock because it had worked all season, but the selection comittee fell for it. Tayor was named in the selected team, but it was (as the cliche goes) 'the worst kept secret' in football. Mainly because Taylor rocked up to the Collingwood social club the night before the game and got hammered.
