Last week I bought presents, wrapped them, and put them under the 'Giving Tree'. Do it every year.
Some kids miss out on Christmas through no fault of their own. I know it doesn't make me a better person for doing it, but it makes me feel better knowing that kids who wouldn't normally get anything for Christmas will now get a present.

True story:

Walmart* took all the toys under their tree that had been donated by people to be given to others less fortunate, placed them back on the shelves for resale.

Welcome to corporate Christmas spirit.

*Walmart are an evil American supermarket chain if you didn't know, Mooster may know more about them.

Sounds like a mistake, or an anti-WEF ole wives tale. Walmart is the biggest company in the world, whichever way you want to measure it. The family of the founders donate many millions to many charities. Far from evil.

Well it happened. They claimed they thought some of the toys were grabbed off the shelf and put there without being paid for so they put the lot back on the shelves.

Yes, they are quite evil. I'm sorry if this cancer has spread to your shores. Then again, you have McDonalds. It doesn't get any worse than that.

These are giant warehouse structures which sell....everything. Back when old man Walton (the 'Wal' in Wal-Mart) was still alive, it was an OK friendly store chain. Sort of like a mom & pop store in a huge freakin' place.

I don't know who took over after he croaked, but they are indeed pure evil on a Hitlerian scale. Consider the worse profit-pinching corporate thugs you can imagine, and magnify it times ten. That's the modern Wal-Mart.

Believe it or not, they started stationing employees at the exit doors DEMANDING to see your sales receipt which they would then check off against what you were carrying out. They did this 3 f#cking meters away from where you just paid for it!

They did that to my sweet mother. After that, I went in there everyday until it happened to me. I refused to show my receipt and demonstrated I was willing to use violence. They threatened to call the police, and I countered by insisting they call the police. The cop came and checked me out. I hadn't stolen anything. Then we went to the managers office and I verbally spanked him (and threatened more violence). Apparently, about a thousand other guys like me did the same thing nationwide, and Wally-World discontinued this practice.

Another time, I was thrown off the lot for looking at gas barbeque grills. My sweet mother wanted one, and I told her I'd buy one for her (she comes up a lot in Wal-Mart stories, eh?) These grills were out on the sidewalk. The rent-a-cop insisted I get someone from inside to assist me. I told him I had already been inside and all there were was a bunch of old ladies who didn't know **** about BBQ grills. He told me to leave the property or he would call the police. I only had one leg to stand on here, so I left. You can damn sure bet I bought the most expensive grill I could find......somewhere else.

That's just two stories in a nation of millions. Be afraid.

How dare they be concerned about security? Shop lifting is not a problem. Big $$$ in fact. They were canned at a shareholder meeting moons ago about shoplifting write-offs. Told to get their house in order. These companies that listen to shareholders.....evil I tell you. And the way they employ all those people....eeeeeeeek!

Its too late Wynona.:o

That is disgusting. What horrible, selfish, greedy people! I hope they choke when they are stuffing their greedy faces with their Christmas turkey.

That can't happen with the 'Giving Tree', the presents are collected a couple of times a day by the Salvos or Uniting Care.

No way could a corporation be considered evil. Money is the most important thing in the world and should be viewed as such by absolutely everybody. Up the almighty dollar!

:D

Maybe it's a cultural thing. I don't know about your domain Knuckles, but where I live they have to watch me put stuff in my pockets and walk out before they pinch me for shoplifting. Random stops at the front door less than ten seconds after I've paid for my merchandise, demanding to balance my receipt with what I'm carrying can result in a good ol' fashioned yankee ass kicking.

The deal with this 'giving tree' could be different. If they have video tape showing people plucking items off the shelves and putting it under the tree without purchase, I can agree with what they're doing. On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it's all an excuse to recycle merchandise. That's how evil they are.

Good point about the employment. A lot of gomers in the States supplement their retirement income by working at Wal-Mart. Good place for teenagers too.

Then move to Mississippi. You'll pocket a cool $10M for persecution! The big boys are getting well and truly nailed there. Revenge of the jury.

I seriously doubt that the Xmas tree thing was nothing more than an error.

How could it be an error?

"Oh deary me, how'd these toys get under this tree? Perhaps they fell off the shelf, I'll just put them back where they came from.. in the aisle 100 feet away."

They have many employees in each store. They are not always alert to there surrounds. I've bumped into a some of the shelf - stackers. Yes.
I seriously doubt a zillion dollar corp would have a board meeting to pass resolution to get people to buy gifts then place them under a tree, then back on the shelf. Seriously.

Probably not. But the manager of that particular store might see an opportunity.
