And Brocky is a cheat, didnt earn most of his 9 wins..But Anyway heres the story .........

BROCKY'S back at Bathurst with a simple but ominous message for the sport's young guns -- he won't be just making up the numbers.

"Our team has a budget that is about one-20th of HRT's, but I'm sure our car isn't much slower than the HRT and I'm going up to Bathurst to try and prove that," Brock said.
The racing legend is gunning for a top-10 finish at Bathurst in October, returning to Mt Panorama in a Team Brock Commodore with his famous number 05 on its doors.

He's serious about challenging the front runners, even though he says one of his main aims is to enjoy himself.

"I'm fully aware that a lot of people will say I shouldn't do it and that appeals to me in a sort of perverse manner," the 57-year-old said.

"I welcome the controversy. It's my life. They aren't inside your body and know how you think or how your body is working, so at the end of the day it is just their opinion.

"The geriatrics of Australia, the pensioners and over-55s will all be hanging out for this and will think 'If Brocky can do it, so can I'," he joked.

Brock won his first Bathurst 30 years ago, before Craig Lowndes was born, but said he could still match the V8 Supercar pace.

"I've never felt I'm rusty," the nine-time Bathurst winner said. "I'm fitter than I ever have been."

The Holden hero wants to have another crack at Bathurst and also generate sponsorship for his new team.

"Trying to establish the Team Brock brand has become very difficult, and we were having some challenges put our way by others who don't want us to achieve our full potential," he said.

"But it didn't really take a lot of convincing to get me there."

Brock's last race at Bathurst was in 1997 with Mark Skaife, when he led in an HRT Commodore before electrical problems ended his run.

This time around, Brock will be joined at the wheel by Kiwi Craig Baird, who is grateful to have such an experienced co-driver.

"He knows the circuit better than anyone else in the country," Baird said. "I think he will surprise a lot of people with how well he will go."

Baird might be enthusiastic about Peter Perfect's return, but not all the other drivers think he is up to the task.

KMart Commodore driver Greg Murphy said he was surprised Brock was coming back after five years away.

"I'm not really sure why he's doing it," he said.

"Things have changed a bit since Peter retired, and I don't think you can just come back for one race and be competitive. It's his choice, though, and it doesn't affect the rest of us," Murphy said.

Castrol Commodore racer Russell Ingall said Brock was still quick.

"He retired a while ago, but he can still steer a car pretty sharp, that's for sure," Ingall said. "If he wants to have a run, I reckon, bugger it, why not? He's done more laps there than anyone else."

Brock said he would focus on the race, but can't wait to see his loyal fans again.

"I'll be happy to get up to the top of the mountain and wave to them," he said.

Brock has never refused to sign an autograph and is mobbed when near a race track.

"It is going to be chaotic. I reckon I will have difficulty in getting from A to B," he said.

"People have been pleading with me to come back, saying things like 'Brocky, Brocky, one more year'."

Brock said he realised he could be competitive at Bathurst again after finishing sixth at the Targa Tasmania rally in April.

His was the first two-wheel-drive car across the line.

"I thought, 'Hey, this is pretty good,' and it all started there, I think," he said.

Brock will race a Rodeo in the Australian Safari from August 25 to September 1, before concentrating on the build-up to Bathurst.

What are you basing that on? Him taking over his teammates cars when his broke down? There was nothing illegal about that. Juan Fangio was helped to 5 world titles doing the same thing, don't hear anyone calling him a cheat.

I'm a massive Brock fan, he is my favourite driver of all time, but I think it's a silly move. The chances of just rocking up to Bathurst and been competitive are remote - let's hope he isn't another backmarker slowing down the field.

I don't think Mark Skaife won in 1992 either, but they were the rules and it wasn't Brocky's fault. He does have a fantastic record even allowing for that. 7 poles at Bathurst, more wins in the ATCC than anyone else.

Well Skaife did win, sorta.

The race was called off because of the weather conditions, and because of that the car that was in from the LAP BEFORE they called it off, won the race (robbing **** Johnson of a victory).

Cant say I was too happy with that decision either, but I guess that happens.

It happened much the same as Radichish and Johnson won the Queensland 500 (was it last year??)
