How hard do you think the crows will go to trade for Bryce Gibbs.

With a couple of young fringe players (they are only fringe because of age not ability) originating from Victoria, maybe Carlton/Essendon could be tempted.

Maybe Meesen, Knights and the crows first pick (15) for pick 1.

Maybe Carey, Barrassi or John Coleman in their prime might have commanded such a trade. Not an untried youngster. Meesen and especially Knights both have the class to be guns for the AFC--if Meesen doesn't go home next year.

3 players for 1.

I don't think so.

Meesen + pick 16 for Pick 1.

Meesen could go to Carlton for nothing, so you may have to pay over the odds ala Hawthorn giving up McPharlin and Croad for Pick 1 in 2001.

And paying "over the odds" is not what we should do. I think Gets is on the money with what would be a reasonable deal, probably weighted in our favour. Our club could hold its head up to its supporters in such a deal, the other club would probably not be able to justify it. Vice versa if you go the extra step to "over the odds" or even a "fair" price.

Which is why a deal is very unlikely to happen, IMHO. The price for the #1 pick, given the club would have to justify it to its supporters, would be too high to be reasonable. Such a deal would be impossible to broker if both clubs keep their heads.

And we should not obsess too much about one player - obsess, that is, to the point where we pay over the odds.

If we could get Gibbs for Meesen (or similar) and our first pick, I think we'd all be doing laps around the table with James ;)

Adelaide should look at trading John Meesen and pick 16 to Geelong for pick 6

Then on trade that pick 6 and Brent Reilly to Essendon for Pick 1 (or 2) and Pick 32 (or 33) to get Bryce Gibbs or a good young key forward.

What do you think? :thumbsu:

Out: Meesen, pick 16, Reilly, pick 32
In: Gibbs

Too expensive IMHO

Out: Meesen, Reilly and pick 16

In: Gibbs and pick 32

So basically it’s John Meesen (Geelong) and pick 16 for Bryce Gibbs (Adelaide) and pick 32 (Adelaide) for Brent Reilly (Essendon) and pick 6 from Geelong (Essendon), so we are only losing out on the Brent Reilly trade but what you lose on the round about you pick up on the faress wheel as the saying goes.

I must say I would do that trade...

Would be GREAT to see Gibba in Crows colours.

Can't see either Carlton or Essendon doing that trade Gets! We all know what a talent Gibbs is, and who knows how good he is going to be in a few years time.

My only concern over Gibbs is the go-home factor after his initial 2 year deal, although if a Victorian club could keep him there, I beleive it would be Carlton. This is simply due to the close relationship the Gibbs family has with the great man - Sticks!

The Adelaide Crows can only ask the question and Essendon can only refuse the trade offer, with out asking the question it will always be NO.

Lucky you're not on their recruitment panel as that would be a fair deal for all clubs involved.

Absolutely, it’s a win/win for all clubs involved.

Adelaide gets: Bryce Gibbs (pick 1 or 2) and Pick 32

Geelong gets: John Meesen and Pick 16

Essendon gets: Brent Reilly and Pick 6

Not when we can pick up Gibbs with our first pick and possibly get Messon for nothing in the PSD.

Anyway, our board have come out and said that under no circumstances will they trade away ANY early draft picks. So Adelaide would have to do the deal with Essendon, who i'm almost certain would not trade away their early picks either.

However, I do understand where you are coming from. You'll never know unless you ask right.

I think you guys are overrating the value of Reilly and Meesen.

Kevin Sheedy said he would entertain the idea of trading away Pick 1.

Here's hoping Essendon finish last.

You're that guy who used the internet to trade up from a paperclip to a house, aren't you? :p

Seriously - my first reaction to this was - WTF, two players and two good draft picks for one player and pick 32? Too much! My second reaction was - yeah, maybe.

My considered reaction is that Gibbs had better turn out to be the Second Coming if we are to give up picks 6 and 16 in a good draft for him, let alone two players.

Hang on fro a second, no one has even mentioned the possibility of a trade with the Carlton Football Club, we all under stand your clubs under the table tactics and shenanigans to pinch player

However Essendon (or Kevin Sheedy) has publicly said that they would consider trading there first pick (pick 2) and we are just putting some scenarios together that may fit the needs of the clubs involved.

If Carlton drafts Bryce Gibbs (but don’t you want Hanson) then we will look at drafting Scott Gumbleton for 12 months and then trade him back to Fremantle for Mathew Pavlich in a straight swap or West Coast for Sam Butler and or Beau Waters and draft concessions, I am sure they would look at that.

you guys think the blues would be dumb enough to take your offers for pick 1. try your first and second picks + b reilly + meeson and even then i dunno.

How is there an overrating I ask?
Reilly and Pick 6 for Pick 1, and Meesen and Pick 16 for Pick 6, I would say that is close to an underrating for Reilly and about spot on for the untried Meesen.
