Don't worry, whether he is playing or coaching, the premiership will come. He's already brought joy to thousands of people who might not otherwise have reason to celebrate Collingwood wins/losses over the years... just love the way he plays. One of the true greats of the game and a delight to watch.

Happy to have the great man skipper again next year.

Do you guys think it now makes it hard for Clement to ever be captain down the track?

If the captaincy is up for grabs in 08 Clement would be another year on and only have 1 maybe 2 years left. As a result the club would be better off appointing a younger leader who may hold the job for 5 years plus eg. Fraser.

Would have been a great reward for Jimmy, the ever reliable dual Copeland winner, but think Bucks continuing on as skipper makes it difficult for him. Any thoughts?

Agree totally.

Give it to Fraser when Bucks has had enough and watch him go. More responsibilty will really push him to greater heights.

Loved the last line in the Herald Sun article. He states that last years Bulldogs final was a distant memory and that he believes we are capable of a lot better then 7th place this year. This straight from the captains mouth. And Buckley doesnt give out bull******** so Ill take that anyday.

As for the whole Clement issue, I think everyone is making a big deal about it. So what if Clement never captains Collingwood. I dont think its as big a deal as everyone makes it. He is a great leader at the club. Why is it so important that he be recognised with the captaincy when we have one of our greatest ever players/captains already there? I think Clement isnt worried the least about being given the captaincy at all and if he is, its disappointing because there are a lot more important things for him to have his mind on, such as winning a Premiership.

Its really annoying, but I agreed at the beginning he deserved it but still, its not a big deal. We need leaders other then the captain, and Clement is a very reliable vice-captain, lets keep it at that.

Also, another important issue resolved. Pebbles stepping down, this is a very big weight of his shoulders. Its a step further in his rehab and getting back to his best. I hope Pebs has a year that shuts the critics up because HE deserves nothing less as he has been a spectacular servant for the CFC.

GO THE PIES! '07 ALL THE WAY!!

The best man for the job keeps the job. When he goes it will be time for a new captain and Clement will be the wrong choice due to his age. He captains the backline as it is anyway. We need to groom the next captain now.

Great news.

Also, would it hurt if Buckley retired as captain? Hird stepped down, as did Gavin Brown. Michael Voss kept going, yet it wasn't a decision at the start of the year that it would be his last.

I think Bucks should retire as captain. Is Clement is going to be the succeded, I don't think Bucks has to be their for support...however if it was Fraser, Didak, Shaw etc, it may be a thought.

Perhaps its an indication that Buckley still thinks he's got two years left in him, and that the handover can occur next year.
I suspect Buckley does think he has 2 years left. I don’t think a handover is needed though. I heard Tony Shaw talk about this on Friday. He was in favour of Fraser getting the job this year while Buckley is still around, citing what he did re Brown/Buckley. IMO that achieved nothing at the time.

Personally I have doubts about Fraser being a captain, at least at this stage, but if he is the man then I don’t think it achieves much having an imposing figure like Buckley as an ex captain anyway. I have no issue with making Fraser VC and asking him to be a real leader now. I just don’t think handing over while the previous captain is still playing achieves anything let alone when it is such a long term captain and strong personality as Buckley.

I also can’t see any point making Clement captain while Buckley is around. Clement is a smart man and footballer. He would make a good captain but he doesn’t need Buckley’s help even if it was a good idea in principle. Post Buckley, clement won’t have many miles left on the clock anyway.

I’d leave Buckley in the job while he played and groom the next bloke from VC with captaincy duties when Buckley is rested. I just don’t know who that should be. Probably Fraser by default.

Buckley MUST be chaired from the ground after his last game for the Pies as the Collingwood Captain.
Stuff this succesion crap.
A good serving captain who has had a good career can succumb to the trends set by other clubs in the league.
Not Buckley and not now.

Thats triffic, really great stuff, good to see they let him play on. They'll probably have to carry him off id say. Easy on, he has been great.
