Have noticed a lot of bunnings department management and aldi assitant store management jobs advertised lately in my area.

Has anyone worked for these companies and if so give me some further info please.

Culture, pay, roster etc

Thanks 👍

Yes. In short, don't do it. Pay is ok, roster for the most part is ok, but culture is a serious issue internally for the time being. It could be different in your state but who knows.

Bunnings EBA has grade 1, 2, 2A, 3, 4 with associated full time rates of pay of $925, $960, $975, $1000, $1025 a week. Do they have many/any store based employees over and above these levels?

I haven't worked in retail for years but it always seemed that the extra responsibility of a manager position wasn't worth it.

A) no, maybe five at most. All management roles.
B) I find it takes a certain type of personally (usually a prick) to willingly be in middle management

I think these days being a manager is the only way you get full time hours in retail.

The problem with department manager jobs is the shit gets pushed down hill and you are effectively at the bottom so wear it all. All the casuals that are students and living at home and just earning pocket money are hardly going to care.

I worked at both of the supermarkets during school / uni and I think if you were going to be a manager long term it would need to be in one of the smaller departments - produce, liquor, bakery, meat.

Thanks.

Do you mean bunnings or aldi?

The former.
Thanks for your feedback and i'm assuming you are in WA?

Can you let me know what is off with the culture even if via pm?
Thanks heaps

Culture can be pretty toxic, especially when you have to keep taking hours off employees to 'make budget'. You've got to be willing to step on people's toes and have your own stepped on. Shouting matches between managers or managers and employees not uncommon. A bit dog eat dog if you ask me. Not to mention the responsibilities that come with being a manager are not reflected in your pay.

Havn't met too many that become managers in a supermarket and said they enjoyed it. Most I worked under always looked tired then ended up leaving because of burn out.

The stores I worked at were always cautious of giving people full time hours who were not managers.

One person got given a full time contract and then decided they were going to try and get away with doing as little work as possible.

The union always stepped in when the store manager tried to fire them and it 18 months to get rid of them.

Couldn't have said it better, the amount of responsibility you take grows tenfold, but your pay barely moves.

The only positive is the hours, but then they often get completed screwed over for unpaid overtime.
