Burnout Paradise (PS3, 360, PC)

Couldn't find a thread for this game - apologies if there is one already.

There's 4 new downloadable packs coming out in Spring '09 (I assume Autumn here), and hopefully like the others will be free?
The contents are being announced one per week starting Oct 31st. At the moment they are just titled pack 4 to pack 7

http://www.criteriongames.com/packs/coming_soon.php

hopefully one will include the extra island that is meant to be coming...

By the way, if anyone doesn't know about other three downloads already released, they are well worth the download, and of course are free...

Codename: Cagney Pack
In August, we released our FREE Cagney Pack and with it a giant-sized helping of new online game modes, challenges, cars and paint-jobs as well as custom soundtracks and a complete overhaul of our ranked race system.

Bikes Pack
September saw the introduction of motorcycles to Burnout for the first time. Our FREE Bikes Pack delivered as much gameplay as many full games - 4 bikes with male and female riders, 8 international paint-jobs our favourite Burnout-playing nations! It also brought 70 more challenges, all new Road Rules, day and night gameplay and a dynamic weather system.

PlayStation Trophies Pack
Most recently, we released a pack for PlayStation 3 players bringing PlayStation 3 Trophy support to Burnout Paradise. And the good thing about Burnout Trophies is there are always a few just around the corner. The Cagney and Burnout Bikes Packs each have a series of trophies available.

links to more detailed info on each one are here: http://www.criteriongames.com/packs/index.php

How good are Criterion! :thumbsu:
Most other studios make you pay for less.
Plus it's already an awesome game without the extras.

Yeah there was a thread somewhere but can't find it

One of those games that was fun for a few days, then it became apparent you just do the same thing over and over again. Co-op was good, but you knock that off in a couple of sessions

I owned it for 6 days and returned it

Same as every racing game isn't that? You do the same thing over and over?

It's just the levels of fun with racers imo, and how much variety, for which Burnout is easily the best on this generation of consoles I reckon (and was on the previous generation too).

Did you try online? That is fun. I remember one of the 8 person challenges being where we all had to meet at the beach and each of us do a barrel roll to complete it - the catch was that the only place to do it on the beach are two ramps facing each other.

Did heaps of online in the week i had it, and it was the best thing about the game. Especially if everyone had cameras, because it sends you a reaction shot when you take them down. Something we had a lot of fun with

I just got bored of it, far quicker than i did with the last game for some reason.

The arcady thing just gets old pretty quickly. I'm more a sim man, like forza 2, which i still play now.

Details of the first new pack.
Looks like these new packs aren't free either.

Burnout Paradise Party

The first pack of 2009 for BP will be called Burnout Paradise Party, and it will feature 8-player pass-the-controller multiplayer. Players will compete in a party-themed challenge. Interestingly, not only will Party add more gameplay, it will also revamp the visuals.

BURNOUT PARADISE LEGENDARY CAR DETAILS
Criterion Games Producer Jeremy Chubb and the official PlayStation Blog go hand-in-hand, it seems. Chubb made a post today announcing an exciting upcoming addition to the Burnout Paradise experience. According to the post, 2009 will see several "unbelievable new rides," starting with the Jansen 88 Special. Not only is this car particularly stylish but Criterion has made "a few interesting modifications."

Chubb notes that filling up your gauge and then hitting boost will cause flaming trails to stream out from behind your back wheels. Sounds intriguing. Perhaps even more exciting is that when you click in L3, the wheels will retract and the Jansen 88 Special will convert into hover mode and fly around at head height. That's right: flying cars are coming to Burnout, with an increasingly obvious tribute to Back to the Future.

The post ends with a note from Chubb, stating that three other rides will also be made available next year, including the Calvary Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk. Although the post is only directed towards PS3 owners, we can only assume the content will find its way to the 360 and PC eventually.

There's a new free update that has just come out. Of interest to some may be the option to restart a race so you don't have to drive all the way back...

Here are the full details of the content we're releasing alongside the Party Pack. Check out Crash TV for a full run-through - the team are on hand to talk through all these changes.

We can’t resist improving Burnout Paradise.

In-Game Browser Site (PC and PS3-only)

The first change PS3 and PC-players will notice is that we're now using an in-game browser to bring you something we're calling the Criterion Games Network. More on this next week! (Players on all platforms can enjoy the rest of the features listed on this page.)

In-Game Store

The next major addition is our in-game store. You'll be able to easily buy new content, like the Party Pack, without leaving the comfort of Burnout Paradise. Just head for either the Main Menu or the Easydrive Menu. We'll add the Legendary Cars, Boost Specials, Toy Cars, Island and more (!), as they become available.

Vehicle dynamics overhaul

The vehicle handling has undergone its most substantial overhaul since Burnout Paradise was first released. We’ve tweaked the handling on the first available cars, like the Hunter Cavalry, to make the game easier and more accessible.

These cars are now slower, harder to crash and less likely to spin out at low speeds. This’ll help any newcomers get into the game, but it also delivers greater variety between the early cars to the faster, more challenging later ones.

Burnout Paradise – easy to play but hard to master!

We’ve changed the way we display the performance of the cars in the junkyard. You can now easily compare cars and see that with the rebalanced handling, they’re more varied across the whole range. Again, we’re aiming for a more fun and accessible experience. And on the subject of the junkyard, you can now filter what you see there. Pick between cars or bikes and when our Legendary Cars, Toy Cars and Boost Specials arrive in the near future they’ll also be easier to pick out.

Stunt Run Timer Reinvented

Fans of Stunt Run will now appreciate that the countdown timer now starts to count down more slowly. If you’ve never played before, it’ll be easier to pick up. For experts, it’ll counts down faster depending on how many multipliers you’ve earned.

It’s just one of a stack of minor changes designed to rebalance and tweak the game for your enjoyment.

Rebalanced Events

We’ve modified the difficulty of all events. The speeds of the rival cars and Burning Route times have been changed to accommodate new car speeds.

Road Rage Tweaked

We’ve changed the way the timer works in Road Rage– you no longer get time added when you’ve hit the target number of cars. This means the game has a clearer end point and restricts crazy scores to later Road Rages, making it more challenging for experts – see if you can reach 100+ now! It’s been streamlined.

Vibrant Visuals

Paradise City is filled with a whole world of objects waiting to be discovered. We wanted to make it a little easier to spot them, so we’ve modified the colours of the Billboards (red) and Smashes (yellow) and Super Jumps (blue). They also now pulse for added visibility.

Road Rage

We’ve also overhauled the lighting to bring you more vibrant visuals. We wanted to make it easier to see at night and give everything a more vibrant feel with brighter, more saturated Burnout color.

Restart is in

You ask – we deliver. Restart is in! You can now quit or fail an event and choose to restart it.

You’ll be transferred to the start location ready for action. We’ve always enjoyed the feeling of freedom that Paradise City’s open world delivers, but we appreciate that as you run low on events towards the end of the game, you can spend a little too long in transit.

Barrel Rolls for Beginners

And last but not least, we’ve transformed the way barrel rolls work in Burnout Paradise. Hit a split-ramp and barrel rolls now automatically right themselves. It means new players can pull off flash moves immediately, but nothing changes for all you experts out there. You can still risk multiple rolls by steering into the roll.

That's all folks

This update is now available alongside the awesome Party Pack and our brand new game compilation The Ultimate Box.

On top of that the Party Pack came out last night :thumbsu:

If anyone hasn't been keeping up with Burnout news, It's the first of 6 new premium DLC packs which are all coming this year (have to pay for these):

- Party Pack
- Legendary Cars
- Toy Cars
- Boost Specials
- Big Surf Island
- and an unannounced pack, which apparently will be announced in the next day or two via the new web brower addition

http://www.criteriongames.com/packs/coming_soon.php

I got the party pack myself - it just pass the controller multiplayer events - various things like 'get the most air time in the quarry' and stuff like that. Don't know if it's really worth the $16, but after what Criterion have added for free over the last year, I'm happy to send some cash their way. For what it is, it's ok - up to 8 players, and it changes the visuals (cars, hud etc - not the scenery though - as you can see in earlier posts) to a party theme and also adds different song effects - applause and other party sounding effects.

Also noticed on PSN is the Burnout Ultimate box for $55, which includes all the free packs and the party pack.

The trial for the PC version can be downloaded here too by the way (2.9 GBs)...

Cool, i bought this game about 2-3 weeks ago purely because i like the way Criterion have supported the game so much. But on the other hand, i'm not sure if i am going to get any of the additional packs if they are all going to be 800ms like the one just released.

Yeah pretty expensive. Don't think I'll be getting all the packs at thoses prices.

I think I'll have to go the new island and cops & robbers though (plus the party pack already). Doesn't worry me so much about additional cars, probably more into additional games modes and areas.

I tried installing the update the other day, and it kept restarting my PS3, don't know if this was a one time issue, as I haven't tried since, but I hope it isn't ruined.

I have to really give the kudos to Criterion Games on this one, they have done probably the best post-release work I have ever seen, and so far all but one update has been free, all this on the back of their game not doing overly well in sales numbers.

Really hope word of mouth can get around, because as EG said he bought the game on the back of the fantastic support.

I won't be getting the Party Pack, but every other pack looks like it will be well worth the money, and to be totally fair Criterion deserve it.

If anyone still hasn't picked this up yet it's only $29.95 for the Xbox360 and $39.95 for the PS3 from Kmart from this Thursday 5th til next Wednesday.

I love the game but I haven't touched it for a while, nothing else to do once you get Burnout Licence.

Yep pretty much.

The first 3 or 4 days i had it, i loved it. Thought the online was heaps of fun.

Problem is you finish all the online challenges in a couple of sessions before they just repeat, then the rest of the game is just a grind.

I took it back within the week and got a refund.

I've been playing it for a bit over a week on PC. Just got onto my A grade licence. It is quite fun but I'd like a bit more variety in events. I do like the easy, arcadey feel of driving. I remember it being great fun when I accidently was bumped onto the train tracks, which took me on a much longer route to the country club, but boosting the whole way along due to a series of jumps. I just slid into 3rd.

The cops and robbers game will potentially be great but hopefully it's not just Marked Man with cop skins on the Hunters.

The bikes are also good fun but you can only do time trials so I haven't played them in a while. I can accept there not being damage or a whole list of other features but there should at least be races.

I haven't played online yet much though, only a couple of sessions.

Also, is there no replay button? That seems like a big floor. When you pull off an amazing crash/stunt/move then you want to be able to watch it again. Hopefully I'm wrong but I definitely can't find it.

I'm not a big car person but I recently picked this up because I heard about legendary cars and it piqued my interest. I've had a ball with this game. I love just flooring it to see how long I can last. I can't wait for the Cops and Robbers pack. I have to wait until next payday to get the legendary cars as the bills have really stacked up this fortnight.

The McLaren F1 and monster truck look like a bit of fun. I might have to get down to K-Mart this weekend and pick it up.

was just playing people with toy cars online
-they are all smaller
- more "cartoony"
- and have some new paintjobs sometimes

probably isn't worth the equivalent of 10 pounds though for all of them

here's the information on all of it
Today we're releasing Toys into Paradise City. They'll be available as soon as your local Sony and Microsoft stores update.

We're sure that everyone fondly remembers playing with Toy cars when they were kids; some of us here actually still do! With those memories in mind, we've created the Burnout Paradise Toys. This is where you get to see some of the fan favourite Burnout Paradise cars as you've never imagined them.

If you want to see just how great they look, head to your nearest Junkyard and select Toy Vehicles. From here you can look around each one of them. It's easy to then go to the in-game Burnout Store to make a purchase.

You'll find that there are a number of different offerings with the Toys, so here we'll detail the 3 main collections.

Burnout Paradise Toy Collection
$12.99 / €12.99 / £9.99 / 1000 MS
This collection gets you ALL 9 Toy Vehicles. That's the 8 cars and the amazing Toy Nakamura Firehawk motorcycle. This represents the best possible value for you, and it's the only collection that has the Toy Firehawk. If you love the Toys as much as we do, then this is collection that you want!

1236010792-1toyspack1_logo.png

Burnout Paradise Toys Collection 1
$5.99 / €5.99 / £4.99 / 480 MS
This smaller collection gets you Toy versions of the Hunter Cavalry, Hunter Manhattan, Krieger WTR and the Jansen P12.

1236011290-1toyspack2_logo.png

Burnout Paradise Toy Collection 2
$5.99 / €5.99 / £4.99 / 480 MS
The counterpart for Toy Collection 1, this gets you the Toy Takedown 4x4, Inferno Van, GT Concept and Hunter Citizen.

Alternatively you can purchase each of the vehicles individually, although the collections listed are the best value available to you.

If you want more information and to make a purchase, it's really very simple. Head to the Burnout Store, select the collection that you want and select Buy Now! Once the checkout is complete and your download has installed, your Toys are there to play with.

We hope those childhood memories come flooding back!
