What do u guys think of this fella

He can obviously take a great grab, but his disposal lets him down.

He is super fit and can run all day - Where do u see him best suited?

I rekn he should play as a permanent forward - POss even FF, but interested to see what u guys rekn ?

Is he trade bait tho u rekn?

I think there has been about 2 other threads asking the same thing a little while if you want to look there.

My 2 cents worth is I think although he has great aerobic capabilities I think his disposal lets him down too much and I think he is best suited to a forward role.
He can then rely on quality players like Mcleod Edwards and Goodwin to kick it to him, as his set shots at goal is pretty good.

Still a very handy player that I would love to see deep in the forward line. He has kicked 50 goals in a season before and there is no reason why he can't do it again. His unpredictability makes is almost impossible for the opposition to match up on him when he id playing as a deep forward.

I don't think he will be traded. Love him or hate him he is capable of winning a game off his own boot.

Does anybody find it strange that everybody (outside of the AFC) agrees that Burton should be played as a forward except for the AFC who insist on playing him in the midfield.

To be fair, when in form Burton can be a gun wingman. Just turn your mind back to the second half of 2003 season when we was regularly getting his 30 touches on the wing and actually using them. He was getting tagged later on in the year. However, since birdbrain is not a natural footballer in takes him a good month to month and a half to get into form. I would have no problem with him playing on the wing IF he repeats his form of 2003 BUT that is one mighty big if:(

Im glad we are not the only grp of supporters who see somehting like that

We on the POrt board couldnt see how cochrane continually got a game

Before his (comparitively) sensational 2004, at Richmond it was Joel Bowden. Everyone outside of Punt Rd would wax lyrical about him, his long left foot, his ability to run through the lines, etc. Those who supported Richmond thought him soft, inconsistent and barely worth a place in the side.

Burton isn't smart enough to play anywhere other than deep in the forward line. It's a pity 'cos his fitness is good enough to play on the ball but his decision making under pressure is pathetic.
Burton and Squelshy as duel FFs appeals to me.......but I wouldn't be running for the razor blades if the birdman was traded

I think when Burton is firing he can be a great player but he doesnt fire enough and i think he would be great good to trade to for an early draft pick or maybe even thompson. Overall i dont think burton is good enough to playing for adelaide if we want to be a feared side in the AFL. he also doesnt seem to have a good footy brain and wastes the ball a fair bit.

Agree but we will not be doing much trading this year.
Happy as we don't have enormous trade bait - but would like to look at Jolly as he has played some useful games particularly last year, and we need a ruckman.

Trade Biglands for Jolly - can't be worse off ;)

Slightly different.
I personally had no problem seeing why Cochrane was getting games. Found it a bit difficult to fully understand when he got back in the team after a break by dropping White, but that's another matter.
As for Burton, he can be as Stiffy said a very damaging player on the wing. The problem is that he can also be a liability, and a big one at that.
However, those same qualities also means that he can be very unpredictable when played in the forward line. Not always good, but as a third tall, very very dangerous.

Yes, I would have no problems with him at Port if the powers to be somehow decided to trade for him, but NOOOOOO not on the wing. Too risky, and usually when you least expect it.
Nothing like having one of your players going for an easy mark only to be taken out by another one of your players going for a needless specky, and to rub salt into the wound, the opposition then goes on to score a goal.

Burton when used properly can generate a good mismatch for the crows.

I'd play him up forward, as long as he had strict instructions not to crowd welsh and try to fly over him all the time.

you all have to admit that burton would be great trade bait and could get a great young midfielder

Gee, I'm not sure what you would get for him.
Probably worth more to you than what other clubs would be prepared to pay for him.

In all honesty we would be luck if someone offered us a pick in the 15-20 range.

He is injury prone and turnover king. No one will give you a top pick for him.
lol

No, no, no, tommo - you need a brain to play CHF!
