What you just posted there is a very silly statement, Burton wont be ready until round 16 at the earliest he is going on 32, Porps, VB and Rutten are key players at the AFC, Burton is not, and if we are too move forward then playing a 32 year old over a developing young forward is what the AFC wants to do then we are in more dire shit than the Torrens River.

Is the AFC moving forward and looking to the future, or is loyality and being nice is what the AFC is about???

Reality would tell you Reilly should have been traded and Burton not offered another contract.

Burton on the list is just another retirement in 2 yrs time, puts further pressure on list development, as I said in the other thread Reilly is soft injury prone and yet people on here are saying 2009 will be his breakout year, yet he has been playing senior football for 6-7 seasons:rolleyes:

I agree there must always be an eye on list development, but, in order to remain competitive, this must be balanced by hardened and experienced players. I think we have a fair balance although a couple more 25-30's would have been nice. That rationale would see us without Edwards, Goodwin and Mcleod who comtinue to make meaningful contributions, not least of which is mentoring and leadership.
I think also each player must be judged on individual merits not a "retirement formula". Bird appears to remain in remarkable physical shape and there is no reason he should not play for at least another year after this.

I have always been a fan of radar, but agree that this year is make or break for him. I think in fairness his injury prone reputation is less about a frail body and more about some unfortunate impact injuries. This in itself would tend to suggest he is at the footy.
