Another pretty good game today. Took some great marks, harassed like a champion. Good move handballing that one off to Jimmy for a goal. Lets hope he does that a bit more.

Kicked that point when Kelly was running unchecked inside 50. Other than that played an important part in our team, unless Egan returns, Byrnes should hold his spot.

he definately did enough to keep his spot. It's blokes like him and Kelly (under-achievers) that can take this team to another level by stepping up. Both did just that yesterday.

Once you get past his poor kicking for goal, he is a more than handy player. I am starting to see him in our best 22.

was that handball to jimmeh more about his lack of confidence to know what to do next? a goal resulted but he never looked like spottin' a player.

it's not like he doesn't stop, while openly running down the wing, deciding what to do.

I think it was a set play. We saw Cam Mooney give it off to Bartel in the same situation a few weeks ago. Again a goal from outside 50 resulted.

True can't be to hard on him for missing Kelly, but as a left footer he should have had a look.

Anyway the point of this thread is that he was very good again on Sunday after being good for the last two weeks.

Keep it up Brynes.....Proving to be a little champ when it counts.

Byrnes was ok, did his bit which is great for him and the team. He did let himself down a couple of times with poor disposal and also poor kicking for goal.

It was funny when he missed an easy opportunity that everyone around me just shook their heads and laughed, saying 'bloody byrnes'.

He did enough for next week though.

Along with Kelly I think this is where we have done really well this season, these guys along with Enright, Corey, Ablett, Max, Bartel, Wojak, Stokes (the list is endless), have developed themselves into good players. They worked hard, and it shows.

I think we have the broadest range of development in the league, with most players on the senior and reserves list improving. Great to see.

I think it was pretty standard game from Byrnes. Created a few really good plays in the midfield but as per usual can't kick a goal to save himself (unless he is 10m in front and can kick with his left foot)

Against mediocre opposition his effort was OK; I am still not convinced that he is in our best 22. In pressure situations he is often found lacking.

Agree - did more worthwhile things as one would expect in a final but his kicking for goal remains shocking. I still think he has earned his pocket money this year.

James Kelly played his best game all year I thought, he went headfirst into packs and his clearance from them was first class. He may not be a high possession getter but he can be very valuable.

Has earned his place last few weeks, the team needs his pace and link play.
Just hope his appalling kicking for goal and sometimes lack of good decision making does not cost in the next few games.

Lets hope he keeps dishing them off. Now is not the time to work on his goal kicking.

his game was average, with that shot on the run from 45m out being the cherry.

i wont subscribe to the other posters that say he butchers the ball, but he rarely kicks to advantage and his hands when he gets tackled or in close are terrible.

and what is it with him corralling himself into pockets against the boundary not knowing what to do next?

for lack of any alternative at the moment he is surviving in the 22.

Thought Shannon had a decent game after a quiet first half. Did some good things and a few very silly things.

He was rather nervous about his first final, so I think he'll definitely improve for the Prelim if he's selected for it (and I don't see why he wouldn't be).

Didn't Brynes tackle Rawlings or someone in the middle which rebounded and resulted in an eays goal for us? I remember something like that...

The thing about Brynes is that he tries hard. He runs at the opposition, he appears to have alot in the tank, he is determined and spirited. he may not have the greatest skill or ability to think ahead in games, but I think his defensive pressure is alot better then people give him credit for.

Slows our plays up when he drags us out to the wings and can't kick on his right.

Definitely agree here, guys would lead to the side he is on, but because he cannot kick on his right he has to slow up play so he can duck back to the inside and onto his left foot.

Something a guy who has been in the league for 4 years should be able to do.

Despite his sub par disposal, he does find the ball, and what I particularly liked on the weekend was the passion and intensity he played with.

That's the sort of commitment that will win us the flag. He's a tough match up, is super quick and seems to now fit nicely into our structure.

Don't get me wrong, there are a number of better players at Geelong that aren't getting a game, but the idea is to pick the best team, and at the moment he fits quite well into our structure....just like West Coast miss Hansen for his role in the team more than he actual ability (which I'm not questioning)

He will be playing in the Prelim for sure, although if Egan made a freak recovery *pictures Ablett snr waving his hand over his foot*, only then would he be made a terribly unlucky omission.

From where we were seated he seemed to miss to many targets. when under little pressure, worst part was we had control of the game with little pressure on and he still could not hit the target. Missed Otto by 5 metres from 35metre. Missed johho and ended up kicking the ball out of bounds also from about 35m

Missed the late goal running in from 50. did not hurt us this time but would be worried in a close game.

Nathan lead towards the boundary with monty running towards him he elected to hold the ball up eventually we got the ball to otto via mooney but we should have been having a shot 30 seconds earlier, frustrates you when watching as he seems to waste the ball to much.

Small players have to have very good hand and foot skills this he does not have.

Did anyone notice how many times he chased down the opposition?
The first time that Stokes had the ball bounced over his head and completely missed it, the opposition got it and then it was a great chase by Shannon and was very quick - Vacoesque style.
His game wasn't as good as against Brisbane, but he was good enough to hold his spot assuming Egan doesn't return in two weeks time.

Had a good game and did several excellent things. Deserves to be in the side now I think, at least until Egan returns.

I think the issue he still has though is that when he receives the ball on the wing, he doesn't seem to do what the rest of the team do according to the gameplan. i think the reason he gets stuck and coralled is because the forwards are expecting (according to the gameplan) for the ball to come back into the corridor or top of the 50m. However, because he has no right foot, he keeps looking to kick to the pocket, but no forwards are leading there.

I just hope his poor decision-making, his lack of a right foot, and his inaccuracy all over the ground (especially in front of goal) doesn't hurt us in a close one.
