Was reading in todays Hobart Mercury that Port have delisted him and that the AFC will be looking to pick him up in the PSD  Please AFC listen, no more recriuting of Ports half chewed up slops, I would have thought that the club would have learnt that after recriuting that hack Downsborough

At least make him train with us first. Make him prove himself on the training track. That is if we are even thinking about taking him.

There anit nothing to think about he has played 12 games in 5 yrs at Pt Power, if they wont give him a game why the hell would the AFC?????We finally have gotten rid of all our hack/dud ruckmen lets not go down that path again. The AFC's hack/dud ruckmen list is as long as my arm, Herbert,Marsh,Keating just to name a few

I agree with you. Ackland is only 22 and if we are honest he does have talent. However, his work ethic has been questioned. Maybe him getting the sack from Port is the kick in the guts he needs. I would invite him to pre-season training wiht us. If he proves to us that he is willing to bust his guts on the training track then I would pick him up in the pre-season draft. He is capable of playing AFL and at worst he could be a "fill gap" ruckman once Clarke retires. This would give us time to pick up a roughie, raw ruckman and develop him. At best you get a ruckman who can play for us for the next 8 years and become our number 1 ruckman.

I would consider him only in the pre-season draft and only if he trains with us and proves that he wants to play AFL footy. I am sure that Stewart will get stuck into him at AFC and when he goes back to the Magpies he will have John Cahill breathing down his neck.

No offence but neither Clarke, Biglands or Hudson would get a game at Port when you have Primus, Lade and Brogan as the 3 ruckman before you in the pecking order.

Ackland has more talent than any of the ruckman you mentioned. Put him to the test and assess him over the pre-season. If he is willing to bust his guts on the training track then pick him up in the pre-season. If he is not, you have lost nothing.

Agreed....I think 1 of his few games was against us a few years back (I think Primus was injured... ..) and I remember thinking that the Paps lost nothing when he came on to the ground. He took a few good marks and seemed to read the play well.
Perhaps being behind Primus / Lade / French / Brogan etc etc has really taken the wind out of his sails. The boy does have the talent it's just a question of motivation.
Thankfully the recently appointed former Bulldog premiership coach :p can help us with making that call and I'd be happy to use the PS pick to get him provided Stewwy is happy.
....but...don't be surprised if the Hawks grab him with another recently appointed former Bulldog premiership coach :D also being keen on him !
Seriously - if both AC and AS are big wraps for him...why not take the punt ?

I'd actually be very surprised if we picked up Ackland. Alan Stewart was on 5AA last night and was asked what he thought about Ackland's delisting and he only had negative things to say about Cain. I definately got the impression that he didn't think he deserved a second chance.

I got the impression he was laying down a bit of a challenge....I thought it was reasonably positive.....Stewy is a pretty straight shooter...thats generally as positive as he gets

I thought Stewy never coached centrals to premiership. I know he coached them to a GF but I don't think he is a premiership coach:confused:

I listened to that as well and I guess there are a couple of ways you can read that. I thought he was giving a challenge to Cain.

I would also be surprised if we picked him up in the National Draft but I wouldn't be one bit surprised if we invited him to training and then picked him up in the pre-season draft.

Having said that I get the feeling Cain will be at Hawthorn next year.

Correct - losing Grand Final against Port in 1995 after 5 years in the job but set them up with a lot of good future players due to his role in development in the SANFL juniors.

As for Cain I'd say there will be a few clubs looking at him with a late pick and if they can get his attitude sorted out he could actually make the grade as an AFL ruckman.

Let me say something here, I thought that the club was going to use it's frst round pick to get a young, good future ruckman????? Why do we want the AFC to always go down the path of 'stop gap fixes' all the time???That is just crap recruiting

He coached Centrals to the 1995 GF, then resigned when they lost. Still, the legacy of his time there is still felt at the club.

No one is saying pick him up with 1st round pick

We say get him to train with us and pick him up in the pre-season draft or maybe with a late pick in the National Draft.

The kid has talent and IF (and its a big if) you can get him motivated and fit, he could be Troy Simmonds type ruckman. Both are strong, athletic with a big leap, both can play forward and both are about the same size.

cry me a river. u are just wanting to be a model of port and i can understand why. Port has an idenity

Why does the AFC want to be a model of Port???Please tell me why???? I think you are deluded by winning the premiership.Um we have two Premierships, so why do the AFC want to be like Port??? I think Port supporters have cried enough to fill a few rivers over the last couple of 'choking' seasons ;)
