Hey guys,

We are wanting to move house ... currently renting 2 bedroom old half-house in South Plympton ... need newer, bigger house/townhouse/unit with BIG kitchen (my fiance Sara is a good cook). 3 bedrooms ... or 2 bedroom with study ... for a home office. Looking inner suburbs north/south/east/west, beach or CBD ... up to $400/week.

Rental market is bouyant so its taking ages to find anything.:(

My current property agent will give me a good reference but is unwilling/uninterested in helping us find something through their agency.:thumbsd:

Due to our work as personal carers of aged/disabled and have regular clients each day (inc weekends) and most opens are late afternoon when we are doing our pm shifts so its hard to get to them.

Any real estate people out there or anyone with contacts that my point us in the right direction or any advice appreciated, please if anyone has been thru the rent mill lately...4 years ago when I moved here it was easier.

Do people exist who search for you (for a fee???)

Thanks.:thumbsu:

Kevin.

I've never rented, so apologies if I am telling you the obvious, but have you tried here?

I'd have a search through there, and if you find something you like the look of, contact the agent, explain your difficulty in getting to opens and see if they are willing to arrange a time suitable to you.

Thanks ... tried that ... most don't care 'coz it's a bouyant market demand exceeds supply ... so if one potential renter can't make it ... 'meh' is their reaction.

I'm just totally pissed that my property manager who we have rented thru for 4 years (without being late paying rent or any inspection problems) just seems disinterested that we are looking for another property. Guess what if I'm asked for any recomendations i'll say ' make sure you avoid agent xyz' ... I won't name them here.

Quite a few of my younger work colleagues have had the same sorts of issues lately. The biggest pain has been the lack of convenient open times and how competitive the market is. They've had to offer well above the asking rate to get a property that was suitable. (it's like an auction system nowadays-the highest bid wins!)

The people who have had the best experience are those who have found a place simply by word of mouth ie a friend has moved out of their place and they've put an offer in before it has been readvertised etc.

Not much help I know, but just know that you're not alone at the moment.

I feel for you, and am about to move again myself, hopefully for the last time for a long time, but it is somehow gratifying that there are no Port Supporting Real Estate Agents...

Good luck.

Isn't Anthony Toop (of the famous Toop and Toop agency) on the board ... maybe I'll give him a call???
