Fellow long suffering tigerheads:
Unless you are in the inner sanctum of our club we cannot fix our problems. We can certainly vent, discuss theories, and call for sackings; but we can't actually fix anything.
We can make things worse though! We have contributed to 'worse' many times in our history - we can deliver chickenshit, microwave memberships and generally behave like imbeciles thus playing nicely into the hands of a blood thirsty media. We are no longer that stupid, are we?
Be calm people. Something ain't working, but our club is acutely aware of that and is trying to fix things. Dimma said last night they know what's wrong and are working on it. I expect that will take the rest of the season. More patience required unfortunately, but what's the alternative? Sack the coach, play the kids, remove the president? That is Old Richmond. Broke, under-resourced, easily panicked Richmond. We are not that anymore.
I just can't stress enough how important I think it is that we react to disappointment in a more measured way than we have in the past. Vent privately, but publicly allow our 'eat their own' reputation to fade into history. For that is where it must stay. Give the media nothing, and give the Club our unconditional support.
I still believe...

He said the same thing about knowing what's wrong after round 2 which was the 5th time we did it against Carlton. Now we've done it against Norf in another line in the sand game for the club.

The calmest thing for Benny Gale to do is had a coffee with Dimma today and tell him the team is his tell the end of the year so do your best but we are actively looking for your replacement because the teams done this 6 times under you and you can not turn it around. I'm sure there are more obvious reasons Gale can let him go for as well but it's time to calmly find a replacement for a terrific development coach that has failed miserably as a match day coach for years now . He's lost 90% of our games this year at the selection table and he's still blaming the players .

If Gale does this then I guarantee the rest of the year will be very calm and we will all be headed in the right direction. The players will certainly be on notice but their must be one stipulation or Gale calmly gives him the punt right now " he must drop players out of form and promote players performing I the VFL at first opportunity". That's first rule of fight club in anyone's book but Shaun Grigg went out with a hamstring strain this week after 10 games of pig poo. The Hampson debacle has sent the wrong message to all our players .

If Brendon finished him up in a quiet voice then that's calm enough for me.

Mate you are spot on... But it's cold comfort for most of us, especially those who have been baying for sackings since about round three.

I would like to see some honesty coming out of the club. Hardwick says "he knows exactly what we have to do", well thanks for the tip coach but WTF didn't you do anything about it last night? And if (as seems to be) the players are playing like a pack of girls, then name and shame or at least drop the pricks to send a message. And if that means dropping some high profile players then to hell with it. We know what's not working, so try something different!

Personally I don't give a shit if we get done by 15 goals next week if we are playing a bunch of ressie players who are desperate for a chance. I see a lot of mentlly weak players and they may well be skillful but if you are soft between the ears you really ought not be playing for the Richmond Football Club.

Personally I think it is the players to blame, not the coach, that is why I will not call for his sacking. But I do think that guys like Deledio and Houli are mentally weak, and I think Vickery is ****ing useless.

It's time to try something different because we are on a one way ticket to humiliation the way things are going and like it or not this always ends in the coach getting sacked. I'll be pissed off if that happens because we will be throwing money away but somethings got to change pronto.

Good post NT. The club will always have my support for life, just need the team to lift its game to match the progress made off field.

As they say, the night is darkest just before the dawn. Our time will come!

The day that Richmond fans stop being passionate will be the day you can start boarding up Punt road.
It's Richmond's greatest asset.

You want to negate that?

Most other teams fans would have walked away years ago.

As a paid up member I have the right to vent whenever or however I want.
To suggest the club doesn't deserve the heat it is now getting is madness.
To be honest I think the club is getting off very lightly at the minute.

Usually we spend a very long time giving the club blank cheques and only when its clearly not working, we overreact in exasperation. Most of us have heard all these excuses before. Our club is the best in the business at buying itself time and granting itself 5 year rebuilds.

Oh BTW is Tony Greenberg still around?

We do all that by continuing to support the club and buy memberships.

The great concept behind BigFooty is that this is a place where people can share their feelings and frustrations.

The great thing about a football forum is that you get a good idea of how Richmond fans are feeling and feelings are often things that we dont actually act on. I remember back in the nineties a bloke storming out of the ground at half time almost dragging his kid with him. He yelled out to no one in particular. Im not watching these C***s run around. Big Footy allows us to get a better insight as to why he doesnt want to watch these C***s run around.

Its better than talkback radio because on talkback radio a supporter is under pressure to get their thoughts out quickly so often they go overboard so they dont get cut off.

This is not a place where people put up inhuman rosy PR blogs about the club.

And that is exactly the reason why Richmond FC is content to wallow in mediocrity and failure. They know they have a product the the passionate fans will lap up win, lose or draw. No matter what they dish up, the fans will keep handing over their wallets. I can just imagine them all sitting around the board room prior to the season brainstorming about how they can squeeze as much money as possible out of the fans.... "here's a good one... lets milk the recent success and excitement and hit them up for an extra 110%!!!" What an absolute piss take. This is after the announcement of a 3.5 million dollar profit last year. If they really cared about the fans they would have invested the MILLIONS donated, directly into the on field success of the club first and foremost!!! But no... they were happy to scrimp on the rookie coach, scrimp on some cheap no name coaching and support staff and bring in cheap C grade footballers. Instead the money got funneled int to shiny new offices, boardrooms and facilities and Christ knows how many other junkets (Brazil) and soirees for the VIP club. Don't worry they know the supporters will be back next year after being spun some more bullshit over the off season. Maybe the fans can give 120% next year, that would be wonderful!!

If it were any other club, they would have gone the same way as Fitzroy.

But it will be another long week on SEN covering the same issues. Radio was certainly more boring when we were winning. Now everyone has a theory and sometimes it makes great listening. All I want is for us to win games so its goes back to being boring.

Dimma couldn't do the bootlaces up of any other afl coach. He obviously isn't respected by his players and that's evident with the complete lack of discipline out on the field. Dimma is on more than $10 000 a week to get it right yet I've seen high school teachers on a fraction of that get more out of a teenage English class with a hard arsed approach... Selfish players who know that he's a soft touch, people can talk about speed and ball movement, tackle counts or any other rubbish stat what wins games is team work and discipline. Our players come to work on big money well they should fear their employer because the gravy train ain't going to last much longer when everyone who follows afl is pointing and laughing..

Do you really think the membership numbers will be 65k or more next year?

I seriously doubt that. My guess is that a lot of the people that were lured back in the past few years will drop off again.
I think in 2015 there will be 45k members.

A lot of the 45k will also downgrade their membership.

Does the club care about the fans? Of course they do.

They will keep the cash cows (sorry fans) happy enough to keep their positions safe and the gravy train rolling on. Hence being content with mediocrity and no-one willing to make the tough decisions.
