Hampson is ready to go. Yes Cloke is never going to put on a show or even kick a bag of 4

Kicked bags of three a few times. Why wouldn't he be able to get another one?

and in the OP someone mentioned Hartlett why not get him in to play CHB like you said drop Cloke swing Waite to CHF.
I'll tell you why.

If Hartlett comes in there is a better than even chance that st some point during the game we will go down one man due to his hammies.
He has been able to string games together in the two's, at a lower intensity, and his hammies hold up. Each time he comes up to senior level he has to push to that extra level, and the hammies are going to go.

If he was busting his gut in the two's then I'd consider him after about 8-10 injury free games, but only out of necessity.

The biggest issues I had with Cloke on Saturday were:

1. Lack of awareness. Had the ball at his feet in F50 with Setanta and Stevens behind him free. Rather than try and knock it goalward he tried to pick it up, got tackled and his boot almost eneded up in a rebound 50m that cut us up going back the other way.

2. Got out-muscles by Lewis in a marking contest on the memebrs side in the 4th Q. Sorry, it may be nit picking, but this IIRC went back into Buddy who kicked it from the boundary, and Cloke should NEVER be outmarked by Lewis standing shoulder to shoulder. At worst that should have been brought to ground.

Bad game, and if he survives (maybe Austin or Hampson will come in) he will want to have a good game next week.

Judge a player on what they contribute to the side. What does he contribute? He playes up the ground and opens up a little more space for Fevola. Any mug who is tall could do this. Austin could do this and he might actually provide some forward pressure and kick some goals and take marks.

He isnt the answer long term. At the moment he is played their out of necessity. As someone said he seems to run under the ball and looks to duck alot, ball goes over him a player easily mops up out the back door. From all reports Austin has been having a good year at CHF for the bullants. Maybe drop cloke for a couple and have a look at him. Deserves a chance from all reports. Hartlett is running around at a slower pace in the ressies. Much faster in AFL i still worry about those hammies of his.

so are you saying you have never seen Cloke do this?

I just reckon Cloke has developed a bad habit of running under the ball when he is in front, preferring to be second man up to mark.

Personally i think that is just lazy footy.

Numbers I respect the quality of your posts but this one has me stumped. Is this 2 separate faults?

When in front would assume first up for the ball not second whether too far under it or not.

Do you mean deliberately runs too far under it when in front so he does not have to compete for a mark when in front, and therefore only ever competes for marks when coming from behind?

Yep.
I don't like bagging big blokes but...

He can take a mark when he has the sit, no problems, so it isn’t mechanics going on,
and our on ballers can hit Fevola flat stick from 50 yards, so it isn’t the blokes delivering it.

He is very selective when going for marks, but still sneaks down to the wing for a few cheapies, and then he has no impact.

Reckon his problem can be ironed out, but not in front of 70,000 people.

Not against a good side when we need him to step up.

No joke, Lance Whitnall, if kept would be contributing more to our side at the moment than Cloke. And Lance was finished. Lets not kid ourselves, we aren't there yet, we still have blokes who aren't worthy and haven't got much room for improvement getting a game but I think we're nearly there.

I can't believe it has taken this long for Carlton supporters to pick up on the fact that Cloke is badly out of form. And just to validate your opinion with facts, Fev has taken 44 marks for a return of 23 goals, 4 goal assists and 17 behinds so far. Cloke as our other key forward has averaged 7 marks having taken 42 marks in total for a return of 5 goals and no goal assists.

He is a very long kick for goal, In fact I back him from outside 50 moreso than inside 50 yet Cloke is not scoring or creating any goal scoring opportunities. This only confirms your suspicions that he chases cheap marks out on the wings.

We are getting slaughtered in the goals from marking category and one of the reasons is because Cloke is not prepared or unable to enter into a marking contest.

His mobility of lack off is of big concern. Even Lance Whitnall who was considered too slow forthe game was a lot more agile and quicker on the lead.

Dirk

Cloke is not even that big but he runs like a he is as big as Sandilands. He is either not fit enough, too lazy, or too fat. Why the hell is he that slow?

You guys are right about Lance, he would have been more useful than Cloke at the moment.

Im sorry but if you can't kick over the mark in AFL football you can't play.

Seriously, how many times does he kick into the guy on the mark or plays on and either handballs or kicks long in hope. Have to be better than that, he just doesn't have the brains or the smarts, and its starting to show, plus you can tell he doesn't really gel with the rest of the boys.

Out: Cloke
In: Hampson

I still think waite is our only serious option for CHF. But it's a matter of robbing Peter to pay Paul, isn't it? We need waite down back and up forward. We still need a CHF. Where's sticks??

I am noticing someithing in footy, spoils that send the ball 10m+ rarely get goals scored off them while weak spoils allow the front and center crumbers in on the action. How many contests do we see Cloke in where the ball is belted away from him... too many.

Going out on a limb here because I haven't seen him play in the 2's but why not give Austin a few games at CHF in place of Cloke. I can't see how the MC would consider Clokey to be our long term CHF so lets bite the bullet and try it. Based on cloke's current form we're not going to lose anything and I'm not just talking about last weeks game. While he's been serviceable with a couple of goals here and there his mobility, ground work and defensive pressure is not enough.

If we played Austin there and he has 1 tackle 2 goals and 4 marks against Freo he would already match Cloke's output, but I am willing to bet he'd do better. Come on MC, Cloke is a Ken Doll (looks good, lacks the goods), Give our tall key position players in the reserves a go now!
