Is it just me or has anyone else picked up on body language and general comments from Ling that give the impression he knows more about the internal coaching and players from EFC than most? We hear he remains a good friend of Mark Thompson so is it a case of some banter over a beer he hears or is there more to it? Thompson has endorsed him as a coach, Ling seems to know the players well even talking about strategies etc.

From reports Ling has met with Melbourne but who else is he meeting with? Could Thompson have him in mind for a role at EFC? I get the impression Ling would be very comfortable working in a coaching environment that includes Thompson.
 
Would love that. LN and myself are under the distinct impression that the club needs more gingers.
 
Thompson will probably go to Melbourne to oversee Lings work.

Thompson, Roos and Ling all seem to be in some kind of unison with eachother. Wouldn't surprise me to see them all at Melbourne next year. Ling as the next coach with the aim to coach the dees in 2016 and Bomber doing what he did here with Hird.

I don't see why hes this marvellous potential coach. Just because he played with 21 superstars at Geelong and was there captain because none of them were leaders but excellent players. His value or cost has dramatically risen and for little to no reason.

Ling was a very good onfield leader onfield coach. He marshalled the troops and directed them position wise. He knows onfield football structures as good as anyone. I think he'd need at least 2 years experience as assistant to be any good as senior coach though. One year under Roos wouldn't be enough.

Pfft that's all fluff. Maxwell does it more than anyone, so does Heath Shaw. The geelong players didn't need to be tole where to stand they already knew. They had the best playing group we may ever see together.

He might do 2 years under Roos.
 
Good point efcboy. Seems a certainty that Ling will be coaching next year. Maybe Goodwin will be at Melbourne and Ling taking his spot. Or alternatively Bomber stepping back a bit into a "director of coaching" type position and Goodwin as a pure senior assistant with Ling in the mids.

Maxwell and Shaw structured around back 6. Ling was instructing positioning across all areas of ground. Far superior than those two. Putting Heath Shaw in the same class as ling leadership wise is an insult to Ling!

The Geelong players were regularly told where to position by a number of senior players none more so than Ling.

Essendon 2000, Lions 2001-2003, Essendon 1984/1985 and Hawthorn1988/1989 all have that Geelong team covered for mine.

Very interesting possibility. When Hird was first told that he was going to be out for a year and Thompson said that he wouldn't do it, my first choice was to give it to Goodwin. He's more than likely going to be a senior coach at some point and he does have a strong connection with Bomber (business related).
 
Aussie Jones would also be a lower profile, but still awesome get. Been such an impressive operator given the list he's had to work with and the club's impeding demise
 
I think Goodwin to Adelaide is a fair shake so I wouldn't mind Ling in charge of our midfield instead.

Thats all rubbish to me, you could say that about any captain. I can tell you right now he wasnt telling gazza, bartel, enright, scarlett, chappy, corey list goes on and on where to stand on the field.
 
Fwiw id take ling as an assistant at 100-200k a year whatever they get paid. Im unsure whyd hed come to us with jimmy back if he comes back surely he stays around.

The great thing that entices me to ling is the ever good, good man, respectful look or face to the club hed give and that would be huge for the club right now

As much as I hate to say it, but I'm not certain Bomber will be with us next year, personally I'd be spewin.

Coach and assistant coach are so far different it isnt funny. I see hiw worth as an assistant coach on that salary for now I just dont get all this massive hype around him and what its for. Hed be a good face for the club in the short term thats one of the bonuses that come with him.

People are pumping him up to be the next messiah when hes not.

My gut feel is that he'll see this "project" through to completion, but it's nothing but a gut feel.

I must have missed the massive hype messiah bit. I think he's probably talked up a bit because he sticks out from the rest of the arseclowns he currently works with like a big, red, flashing light.
