It was rumoured on White Line Fever last night that Cam Mooney will end up at the Kangas next year. It hinted that it would be a player for player swap and Wallace, a guest on the program, said that it if Mooney did get traded it might be beneficial for both parties.

I would love Drew Petrie at Catland but even if we threw in Bartel or Spriggs along with Mooney I don't think we would be any chance.

The other two players mentioned on the kangaroos board are Morrell and Leigh Harding. Mooney is a better player than Morrell so I dont think that is an option. Harding would provide that small forward option we need given Lord and Ricco are near the end but I'm not sure he is worth giving up Mooney. If Mooney can stay injury free over the next couple of years I think he will develop into a very good player.

Leigh Harding... didn't he used to play for Geelong in the VFL??

I think it's fair to say that, the last couple of games have dictated Mooney's whereabouts next year. Whilst he wasn't too bad against the Roos (contested strongly, presented himself as a target etc...) his game last night was simply deplorable.

Wouldn't surprise me if Geelong traded Kent and Mooney for either draft picks/another forward and stuck with last night's structure of McCarthy, Playfair and the smaller players like Chapman and Spriggs for awhile.

Just had a quick look at North's message board, and they seem to think that Hamish McIntosh is going to be a gun. One, who had witnessed the majority of Port Melb games, seems to think he will be better than Petrie up forward. However he got dropped to the seconds only two weeks after being named as an emg. Apparently he was furious (according to the supporter who spoke to him after the game). If Mooney is traded back to Arden St then maybe we should try and secure Hamish. North have plenty of talls like Petrie, Hale, Rocca, and Morrell up forward.

Besides, why would we want another young tall? Especially a tall that struggles to make Port Melbourne's VFL side.

No thanks.

We would be trading away a tall to get a tall so from a list balance point of view we wouldnt lose anything. McIntosh was a top 10 draft choice and from all reports he has been killing them at VFL level. For some reason he got dropped from the Port side because he did something wrong. He has better credentials than nearly all our young forwards. With norths list of talls it might take him a long time to break into the senior side where at Geelong if he had the talent he would break in much quicker. McCarty and Playfair were long shots when drafted and the odds of one of them being a star is low IMO. I think they will be handy, like Mooney is handy, but I dont see them being someone we can win premierships around.

Our midseason sounding out of quality forwards turned up nothing (trust me). Nobody is prepared to shift down to Geelong from Melbourne for marginally more money. The only way we will get a forward next year would to pay way over market value for one, which the club wont do or take one that is currently struggling and needs to re-establish themselves (bradshaw). You watch over the next few weeks the club try and hose down speculation that they will be getting a boom recruit next year. The best the GFC could hope for now is a to land someone like Hamish who will be a very very good player plus some like Fergus Watts with our early pick.

Not sure what reports you've seen, but the kid has only made it into the best players list once this season, whilst he's kicked all of 15 goals.

I've seen him twice this year, and yes, he has talent, but he hasn't been as impressive as North supporters would have you believe.

BTW He kicked one goal and didn't get in the better players in the VFL reserves on the weekend.

McIntosh is improving, but Tom Lonergan is clearly a better footballer right now.

Lonergan barely got on the park in the first 6 weeks of the season, yet has kicked 26 goals, McIntosh 15.

Credentials mean nothing if one can't get a kick.

I'd prefer to keep Lonergan than trade for McIntosh. No doubt McIntosh has more potential to become a great player (sheer size) but I think Lonergan has more chance of establishing himself at AFL level. I'm more willing to back the guy who needs to bulk up as opposed to a player who needs to learn the skills required to make the grade.

If McIntosh is such a sure thing we can take Petrie off their hands :p

Why cant we keep both? It was Mooney who we were trading not Tom. There is no way we will trade Tom. Don't get me wrong I think along with the rest of you that Tom is going to be a very good player. Better than both McCarthy and Henry (the two young forwards I was talking about) but McIntosh sounds like he will be every bit as good as Long Tom.

We don't need McIntosh.
We've got Tom, H with Blake and perhaps Ablett coming.

If we trade Gumby, we'd be better served looking at a flanker or draft pick.

North will trade Morrell, not McIntosh, anyway.

I don't think we would be interested in Morrell. We're better off going for Petrie, but I seriously doubt the Kangas would trade him.

You're funny.

So you're basing your opinion of Hamish McIntosh on 2 sitings, and the way the paper names the best players?!?

Curious, did you make the treck down to Teac Oval on the weekend? If so, did you think Michael, Stevens, who was named BOG, was deserving, after all of his 10 or so possessions and bugger all else? Did you think he was better than Daniel Harris's 30+ and 2 goals?

The newspaper "bests" is creative writing mate.

I'd be trusting what you see with your own eyes.

I've seen pretty much every senior Port game the kid has played. Never seen a kid improve so much in every aspect of his game in such a short amount of time. He will be frighteningly good in a couple of years time.

Now i havent seen a great deal of this Tom Lonergan, so i'll take your word for it. But i'll also happily say you can keep him, and we'll very gladly stick with our 200cm, 100+ kg, 18 year old fullback eating machine.

And by the way, he played 4 quarters in the ruck, which is the first time he's done that this year.

McIntosh didn't play VFL seniors once for the first 4 weeks ya peanut!!

And curious, how close has this Lonergan come to a senior game in one of the AFL's bottom performing teams this year, that same team who has been crying out for key forward target for much of this year?

If he was "clearly" that much of a better footballer right now, surely he'd be smashing down the door?

A footnote: Hamish was not dropped form Port Seniors because of form. He was asked to go back to work on ONE deficiency.

I look forward to revisiting this topic in a year's time.

Right, so you have barely seen him, yet you are happy to discount him.
Didn't you just have a go at me for judging your players worth on the basis of two VFL games?

Working beautifully.

Ah no, the kid has a body that makes David Bourke look like Hercules.

Not sure what you know of Mark Thompson's senior coaching style, but VFL form is very low on his list of priorities for earning a senior game.
He said that Lonergan would remain in the VFL all season long to learn, and he's stuck by that.

If VFL form and talent were the only criterion for selection, young Lonergan would have played by Round 7.

I haven't seen Hamish McIntosh play, so will watch with interest when the VFL finals are shown on the ABC.

No, i merely said i was more than happy to have Hamish, based on what i have seen of him, which is lots, and the fact that he is already on my club's list.

I wasn't amongst the group of supporters suggesting we go after another club's young talent.

And yes, i am fully aware that you were not one of those advocating the wishful notion that your club would try to or could possibly poach him.

I'm sure your boy has lots to like about him. Hence why i said "I"LL TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT".

I wouldn't know. 2 times i saw your reserves this year, your team was ordinary to say the least so it wasn't too hard to just concentrate on my own mob.

Regardless, like i also said, you can keep him. Very happy with our monstor thanks all the same.

But next time you compare the merrits of 2 players' performances, how about trying to be accurate and divulge the full story?

And the weekend after as well as i'm lead to believe.

Hopefully Hamish gets promoted again to Port seniors.

Set player quoters is one of the down sides to an aligned reserves team unfortunately.

So after all that I gather the Mooney - McIntosh trade is off :D

I'd love to visit this thread as well in 1 years time. I'd love to visit it even more if Hamish is playing senior footy in the blue and white hoops. I'd love to have him.
