Campbell Brown

Once again tonight's commentators referred to Campbell Brown as being "nearly as tough as his old man", or words to that effect.

Maybe some of our aging Sandgropers might be able to fill me in on a few of Mal's more courageous feats in the WAFL, but such acts of bravery and real toughness certainly eluded my young eyes in the early 70's Veef.

From a dedicated Tiger fan, I can honestly say that Mal Brown was far from tough - a loudmouthed, brainless, brutal thug maybe, but certainly not tough.

Now Campbell Brown IS tough. He's brave, smart, skillful and already far better value to the Hawks than his old man ever was at Tigerland.

Best of luck to the lad. Keep backing into the packs, picking yourself up off the deck and showing true toughness.

the bloke was a dellusional clown , overweight , he was overrated as a player & coach , a dirty thug. Off the field funnily enough he is a real character & quite an astute businessman

A true story that has come out of South Fremantle was the day Mal Brown when coaching after a win bashed Jon Dorotich who mustve been 18 at the time in the showers cause he apparently got reported ... turned out he went into the wrong shower & bashed the wrong guy !!

Mal Brown has a ferocious temper , other famous( or infamous ) incindents were walking down the Hay street mall in a bikini after losing a game & telling a player once at qtr time to go to the changerooms collect his gear & go back to the country & if he was still there at HT he was going to get a beating

My favourite Mal Brown moment, was from when he was coaching. He was banned from going onto the ground at 1/4 and 3/4 times, so he hired a cherry picker to park right on the boundary, and lower him just above the ground to address his players. Funny guy, but a bit of an animal as a player.

Mal Brown - an old favourite of mine. That game (East Perth v carlton) when he keep knocking those Carlton players down. Everytime I see that footage I have this image in my head of Mal on a TV ad sitting at a table pouring a box of cereal into his bowl. Rather than cornflakes or rice bubbles, mini Carlton players are pouring into the bowl. Mal looks at the camera and says, 'Carlton - breakfast of champions'.
