Canberra Capitals defeated the Sydney Panthers this afternoon by 8 I think. Lauren Jackson was MVP scoring 29 points

I actually caught the game this arvo on channel 2. Not a bad game, Jackson dominated getting 29 and 20 boards....she is nuts! The Caps were in control from the get go and although the Flames fought back hard in the second half from a 16 point deficit the closest they got was 2 points with around 5 mins to go.

The most annoying thing about watching womens basketball is the commentary....they just dont have the lingo if you know what i mean.

I was at the game, and the atmosphere was sensational, especially after halftime when Sydney made their move. I was a little worried near the end when Hughes started hitting the threes. History almost repeated. But the best team for the season won, and in front of a capacity crowd of 5500.

Jod, can I change my mind on the greatest player in history??

I think by the end of her career, Lauren Jackson will go down as the greatest ever, even better than Jordan and Magic.
She can score like Jordan, rebound like Chamberlain, and pass and handle the ball like Magic. And she has better legs.

And she has apparently signed a new three year deal with the Caps, as has Veal, so LET THE DYNASTY BEGIN.

Well ill give you one thing, she does have better legs :D Dont Veal and Jackson both play in the WNBA? How can they play both leagues...is that allowed? And do they get an offseason at all... You would think just as the WNBL season finishes the WNBA season begins, i love to play ball as im sure they do but geez you would think they would want some time off.

Jackson is gonna be the WNBA MVP in the next few years and will go down as one of the greatest women basketball players ever. Glad ill be around to watch her.

To think they didn't give Lauren the Rookie of The Year award in the WNBA.

Let's hope Lauren and her Seattle teamates can improve their game so that Lauren gets the attention she deserves.

Lauren already gets enough attention in the USA. When she signed her initial WBNA contract last season, she also signed a marketing contract to become the face of the WNBA.

The WNBL season starts in October and ends in March, the WBNA plays from May to August. It doesn't allow them much of a an offseason.
Also Annie Burgess, Rachel Sporn, Jae Kingi, Penny Taylor and Michelle Brogan all play in the WNBL and WNBA. Suzy Batkovic and a number of others I believe are going into the WNBA draft.

The Yanks are getting worried because there could be as many as 20 Aussies in the WNBA this season.

My bad, just thought there must have been a reason why she was totally ripped for the ROTY

THe chick that won, Jackie Stiles averaged 14.9ppg, 2.4rpg, 1.7apg, 0.75spg and 0.09bpg

Lauren averaged 15.2ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.5apg, 1.86spg and 2.21bpg

How on earth could Lauren not win the ROTY?

hmmm.. thats seems to be the only reason why she didnt get ROY...

inferior FG% ? jackson's 38% to stiles' 41% ?

inferior team record? jackson's 10-22 to stiles' 11-21?

hmmm.. baffling...

Sandy Brondello at the Miami Sol
Carla Boyd at Detroit Shock (with Sporn and Kingi)
Tully Bevilaqua at Portland Fire
Kristy Harrower at Minnesota Lynx
Trisha Fallon at Phoenix Mercury (with Kristen Veal)
Jackson at Seattle Storm
Burgess at Washington Mystics

These were most of them from last season. Seems the Detroit Shock have a love affair with Adelaide Lightning, huh?

Hope to see plenty more over there this year.

If you're tlking about Natalie Hughes, ummm, did u happen to catch the game against Adelaide in the prelim final?? She went 4/17 from the field and 0/4 from long range.

She is a good shooter when she is on, that's for sure, and doesn't mind giving it a roost, even when she can't hit a barn door!

No i didnt see that game...but thats a sign of a good shooter, just keep shooting, it will come.

Does Veal start for the Mercury? I think Seattle should trade Jackson to Phoenix, get the Jackson Veal connection going!

Kristin started about half her games last season, although i would expect her to start in each game this season.

And yes, the Jackson-Veal combo is brilliant, in more ways then one ;)

Seattle have been trying to trade for Veal, but there is a rumour that USA Basketball have been sabotaging the deal. I wonder Why???

Veal will start every game this season. She started for the first half of the seaon last year and was actually the leading Assists chick until Timmsy returned from injury. Kristen was then moved to the bench, and her minutes were more than halved. Chythia Cooper may have been a great player, but her coaching style leaves a lot to be desired.
