I was emailed last week a YouTube clip of crazy car crashes in Russia, captured on dash board cameras (so many cowboys), an have been thinking about seeing car crashes in person. Have you seen a car crash? Been in one? Post you stories here. Personally have on been in a rear end collision as a child, lady smashed into us

Was driving down Mt Lindesay Hwy near Chambers Flat (2 lane rural road, 90km/h speed limit iirc) and pulled over to check a sms (what a loose campaigner). Looked up to see a white dunnydore driving past but then completely miss the slight curve and fly straight off the edge of the road. No skid marks, no brake lights, nothing. Was freaky. The dickhead driving got lucky that he just cleared a 3m deep ditch and managed to avoid the numerous trees. Car didn't set fire or anything so I think he was OK. Didn't stick around to find out for sure though as a few other cars had stopped already so it wasn't necessary...

i saw a horrible one when i was 13. driving down main north road, and a drunk/stoned/high driver ran a red light from womma rd, t-boning a poor girl. hit her flush. would have pretty much killed her instantly

dude driving the other car did a runner. apparently got caught later

amazed how quickly it happened too

when i was 19 or 20, within the space of a week, i was a passenger in cars that crashed. 2 of them were simple nose to tail ones, third one was on a friday night where i stupidly got into a car with a mate who was smashed and decided his mk II european escort was a rally car, and his girlfriends driveway (which was in mount crawford forest) was a rally track. of course he hit a tree. the crash flung me from the backseat which had no belts into the front seats. was really lucky that was all that happened

Had one minor one where I went into a guy. Should have been concentrating but what the guy was doing stopping in the middle of an intersection I'll never know
Had a another close call just after I got my P's. Ran a Red light by not concentrating. Luckily no one was coming the other way

Only one I have been in was relatively minor 4 cars rear ended each other in front of me because the 1st car didn't have any brake lights I managed to stop about a metre short of them

the next chain of events was along the line of me going 'woohoo avoided the crash' *bang* as some silly bitch drove straight into the back of me.

Other than that haven't seen anything major happen only the aftermath

Had one when i was 18 only been driving for a month did not have many hours was on the way to school and my lunch a sandwich dropped on the ground where the passenger seat was

I thought i had better pick it up as i was picking up a mate and he would have stood on it so i lent over i had a front left busted spring which would make the car lean to the left when you took your hands of the wheel and the rest is history

Hit 3 parked cars riding of 2 of them and my own just a week before we were going to sell it due to it having alot of issues

Was a very good lesson to learn and i made sure to eat the sandwich at the end of it all

Wrote my dads car off when I crashed into a mate. He just randomly slammed his brakes on, car couldnt stop in time (Wasnt speeding before you say it :p), realistically only hit at about 10-20km/h but wrecked my dads car.

Been involved in 2 accidents, car written off both times (both times not at fault)

1st one i was driving my girlfriend and sister to Chadstone, left home and was getting towards the freeway ramp (about 150m) and a car pulled out from a side street trying to cross over the lanes so he could turn right. pulled out literally as i got to where he was so there was thing i could do. hit his door at around 80km. thankfully no one was hurt.

As we waited for police and tow truck his mate pulled up and thought i was at fault and was trying to get to me to beat the crap out of me in the middle of the road.

2nd one was in May. Was driving to work on the South Gippy freeway in the left lane, going along at 98-100km having a laugh at Mick Molly on the hot breakfast when i suddenly felt a nudge at the back of my car. all of a sudden i felt like i was losing control and my car shot across the right lane of the freeway spinning and was lucky enough to end up hitting a heap of bushes / small trees in the median strip of the freeway.

what had happened was a truck saw me ages away but thought i was in front of him as he was merging over to the left lane. clipped the back of my car sending me across the road out of control.

Somehow i managed to walk away from it, much to the amazement of the police and medics.

worst part of it all is trying to get excess back through insurance company (Bingle make you pay the excess straight up regardless of who is at fault then refund it if you are declared not at fault) it has been 3 months..

Moral of the story is not to go with a shit insurance company...

I'm with bingle didn't know that glad I do though

Worst thing is having your premiums jacked up because some other campaigner doesn't know how to drive

Had a minor one about 3 months ago. Was sitting at a red light and some chick in front thought it would be a good idea to try and reverse into a parallel park next to me without indicating, even though there was only a 1-2m gap between my bumper and the car parked in front of said parallel park. Wasn't able to reverse since there were cars behind me, so she continued reversing even after I gave her a toot. Low and behold, she smashed into the front of my car.

Have previously been involved in two other accidents, both times as a passenger, and can only vividly recall them since they both happened many years ago. One was (technically) my dad's fault, the other wasn't.

The first one happened on the Princes Freeway heading out of Werribee where the petrol station is. Dad was entering the highway from an onramp that merged into the right-hand lane, and since oncoming traffic was in his blind spot he couldn't see exactly what was approaching. As we were merging onto the freeway, some guy on a motorbike initially travelling at 110 or so clicks sped up and ran into the back of us, causing our car to swerve onto the median strip. Very lucky that a bigger vehicle didn't hit us, dad was able to brake in time, and nobody was hurt.

The other accident happened on the same stretch of highway. We were cruising along and a car crossing the freeway at an intersection pulled straight out in front of us from an adjoining road. Dad quickly hit the brakes and clipped the back corner of the other car, causing it to swerve onto a traffic island. Quite miraculously also, minimal damage was done and nobody was hurt.

I hit a parked car too when I was about 18 and had just got my license, was fiddling around with my radio/tape deck and not watching the road, nek minnut *Bang* straight into the back of a parked car. Got the shock of my life but was otherwise alright, my car wasn't written off but still did a fair amount of damage.

Other major accident was when I got rear-ended by a woman while I was stopped at a roundabout, she didn't even brake so it was a pretty forceful collision. My car was written off and I had pretty bad whiplash for a week or so.

Also drove through red lights once when I was in the States, they have their traffic lights hanging up high on wires rather than at eye level on poles like they do here so it can be easy to miss them when you're not familiar with it. Luckily it was a fairly quiet area so I got away with it. Also drove on the wrong side of the road there a couple of times just out of habit but was able to realise my mistake before causing any head on collisions.

Sounds like the mistakes you make when driving are just like and if not worse than those of the umpires?
