While it is considered a certainty we're going to end up with Caracella, has anyone actually heard of any of the clubs in front of us (Tiges, Hawks, Dogs) come out and say they won't be selecting him in the PSD?

I know all the media reports have none of those clubs selecting him due to salary cap concerns or the coach wanting to build a young list but I would love to know for certain that he will be in the black and white next year.

Given our back luck at the trade table over the years, it wouldn't surprise me to see one of those clubs jump up and pick him just to spite us.

It has got to the stage now where I'll be very disappointed if we don't get him.

Tigers are choosing a ruckman and the Hawks and Doggies aren't selecting anyone.

I think with the price tag he has put on his head,we are the only club in the first few picks who can afford him in the salary cap.I do understand your concern though, with our history of recruiting big names!

would it calm our nerves to know if there is a second choice should Caracella go earlier. Any other names been mentioned?

I think the Tigers would be our only real worry, and it'd depend if they could unload Zantuck. I think the deadline for nominations is Friday? If nothing happens with Zantuck between now and then, I think were pretty safe. Its been posted on other boards that it is done and dusted. Hopefully thats the case.

He's not useless, far from it. Lacks attitude, but Malthouse surely can do better than Frawley.

Its all hypothetical anyway, we are sure to get Caracella.

I wouldn't want Zantuck, due mainly to the fact that we've done a good job balancing the list. Caracella would further enhance that balance.

I still disagree with keeping on Williams and Lokan over McGough and Mullins, but otherwise, we've done OK.

So what would bringing in another mediocre medium defender achieve? Imbalance.

Plus he's a fruitcake and I'd rather take a two year gamble on a kid who might actually be something and is killing for an opportunity at the World's Greatest Club.

He'd be the best available. Thats why we'd take him. We'd just need to beat the fruitcakeness out first.

We have had our fair share of off-field discretions, and adding more fuel to the fire will not be good for team balance.

He might turn out to be the greatest player to ever change clubs, but, pardon the pun, a tiger doesnt change its stripes that easily.

He is far more well known for his off-field ******** ups than his on field prowess. Good luck Ty, at anywhere bar Collingwood.

Don't think MM would go near Zantuck with a 10 foot barge pole. The quality of the person is very important to Mick, this greatly effects the team group dynamic and club culture as a whole.

Respect is essential in club culture and by the sounds of what's been happening at Richmond Zantuck and his gangster mates give this to nobody and don't think they need to earn it from anybody else.

Bring on Blake...

Character etc are all relative. Any club would take Carey at his prime and pay him more than anyone they already had. Zantuck is no Carey though and a light on for talent Richmond couldn't see their way to keeping him even though they will end up paying part of his salary. He's not worth the risk and if you consider the stand we took with some players a few years back we just can't take him IMO. I wouldn't mind his vigor though. There is no doubt in my mind now that Carracella is the best option. He adds something we don't have enough of which is disposal skill and fluky ability. After being quite cool on the prospect I have changed my mind. In the end there is no one else available.

Someone mentioned Schofield. I wouldn't consider it. He's never hurt us. He's the type of midfielder we don't need. Single position, one way, average paced, receiver with limited life expectancy. Everything we don't need.
