Hey guys, sorry for getting all business on everyone, its late on a Saturday night in Perth and I am stuck at home babysitting!!! But, I am just wondering whether or not there are any forum members who are in the events management industry. I am not very happy in my current role and am looking at getting into the industry. There are a few courses that I am looking at studying, are these really necessary??

My background is totally different to any Events Management-PR-Marketing or Hospitality but I have very strong communication and organisational skills and think that this could be my true calling :p I suppose I am just looking for some opinions / help etc..

Some of what I do now does cross into that area.

Have worked in clubs when I was a welder and 130kg...

now for events it is either because I pay the bills or I know how to set up and run a data projector.

No relevant training for any of it and not much help to you so far.

No not at all, thank you very much for the tips. I was/am tossing up whether or not I need to do any extra study!! I have done so much already!!
 
A lot of mine comes from being at the right place at the right time and then being found to be useful.

You could trade some spare time into experience by helping out at a local event.

Theres an employment board of bigfooty that may help... My uncle also has his own events management company in Sydney, but i dont speak to him often... If I can track him down ill ask

Thanks thats really sweet of you Cammo!

I am kind of in limbo at the moment and looking at changing careers towards the end of the year so any information is really useful for me at the moment!

I really appreciate the replies :)
