Reckon it would be good for Gibbs to agree to a chat with our PR team for the website and explain the situation and how he feels now etc. The lack of a statement or anything from Gibbs is only exasperating the issue. A quick chat for the CFC website giving the journos some content would quickly kill the story & inevitable ongoing commentary that will no doubt continue if he stays silent.

Just my two bobs worth.

Yep. Put to bed very quickly.

"The better half and I want to go home to South Australia but I'm contractually obligated to grin and bear it until a trade can be re-attempted in another 11 months."

A lead balloon of a press conference that one...

A little honesty regarding 'personal' situation and something re the club would be better than silence and a Carmody statement though.

Don't disagree that what you've said is what he might want to say. But he's being paid a lot of money to do and say the right things. Surely he can show up to a conference, grin, and say how happy he is to still be at Carlton?

Couldn't give a toss for players constructed media grabs .
Hope he just has a ripping season and drives his trade value up so we can cash in , head to the draft again , and continue the re birth of Carlton with blokes that want to be here .

Who really cares...would just be heavily scripted w***ery. We all know the situation, didn't work out, business as usual.

Your missing my point. I don't care personally if I hear from him or not but the longer he stays silent the media will build & build the circus around the on-goings of last October and the possibility of a trade at the next exchange period. This, is most certainly unwanted distraction the club doesn't need.
You don't want every damn presser Bolton gives in 2017 with some journo asking him about Bryce's intentions for 2018...

Bryce doesn't need to convince me but he should speak to the CFC website and keep the sharks at bay. He owes the footy club that at least.

Doesn't matter what he says. Media will speculate regardless. Waste of time. Best way to answer the questions is on the track and on the field. We know why he requested a trade, reiterating that doesn't do a thing.

No I get your point. My point is **** the media. It's the pandering to media that creates the circling shark mentality...I'm pleased with the way the club has handled it.

I don't digest a lot of media, but is it actually a big deal outside of BF? I say hold off a couple of more days when Bryce will become old news.

Which media reports are you talking about?

Don't read every media outlet but Haven't seen any journalists talk about it of late, to be honest. Not sure why we'd want to bring it to the media's attention when they don't seem interested. The media will be focusing on the draft & cricket, not Gibbs.

The management of the negative press/sentiment has been pretty poor, I agree. But the window for such a (simple) chat has shut.

All he had to do was sit down with the media guys, in front of whatever camera they're using these days, club polo on (pants optional, they'd be out of shot), and say the following:

"I am a committed Carlton player."

"The chance to wear this Guernsey still motivates me. This is a Club that gave me an opportunity to live my AFL dream and I'm happy to see out my contract."

"I'm absolutely raring to go for 2017 and beyond. A, B and C are looking sharp and I can't wait to run out alongside them."

"What Brendon and the coaching staff are building here is something I believe in and I'm looking forward to seeing this group develop first hand, helping when and where I can to fast track that."

"Whilst I had discussions with the Adelaide Crows, all throughout the process I was more than happy to remain a Carlton if a deal couldn't be done; I wanted to ensure, also, that the Club was compensated if I was to leave and understand a suitable offer wasn't received."

Without any comments from the Bryce, you actually think the media will spare the issue in 2017 and leave the club in peace?
Give me a spell. You would be seriously naïve if you didn't think this issue is a very large elephant in the room within the walls of Ikon Park.
Every time next year Bryce plays well (or not for that matter) the inevitable commentary won't be about how good he is for Carlton it will be about what his plans are in 2018 (despite being contracted!) I guarantee you it will be a topic discussed all year on radio, footy shows & club press conferences.
From CFC's point of view, It will be a nagging, annoying & most importantly distracting issue that will play out all year unless the club & Bryce are proactive in how to handle it.

Like the way Richmond got on the front foot, talking about how well Yaz was doing, how happy he was and how keen he was to get back on the field?

Bryce doesn't owe the club any kind of media spin. He owes the club some good footy, and I'm happy to see him enjoying himself on the training track with the other boys. He may want to try and leave again at year's end, and regardless of what he says there will be speculation about it. Between now and the next trade period, his job is to play footy for the Blues.

Bryce will be badgered by fans and media all year.

Staying silent will only make that worse. Had they come out and made a very simple statement (whether or not he believes what he's saying) they'd have gone some way towards putting it to bed.

As it is, they've done nothing and the whole ordeal will fester until it rears its head again - which it will.

The only festering I've seen has been from angsty fans on forums - sweet FA in the media.

Do you think, maybe, it's possible that you feel aggrieved (personally) by the attempted trade last year and you're projecting that onto the general populace? You assume the media will take his silence as evidence he wants to go again? Here's the thing - maybe he does. He could come out and say he's planning on staying at Carlton for the rest of his career - and the media would simply use that as an opening to discuss a possible move to Adelaide. "Things change", they'll say. "What if Adelaide make the top 4, every player wants a chance at a flag". Both are true, but that doesn't mean they'll come to pass.

I'm not fussed where he wants to be in 2018, and I couldn't care less what he says about it - if he takes the field each week with the intention of playing well for the club and his mates, he's welcome to try his hand at orchestrating a trade again next year.
